You've been warned. http://www.wunderground.com/news/massive-sunspot-forms-20130220?src=fb A giant sunspot that's at least six times the diameter of Earth has formed on the sun in less than 48 hours, according to NASA.Sunspots form when the sun's magnetic fields rearrange and realign. They tend to be unstable and can lead to solar flares.According to a news release, scientists from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory watched the sunspot rapidly grow on February 19 and 20. The agency says it could even be larger than six times the diameter of Earth "since the spot lies on a sphere not a flat disk."Sun activity goes through cycles that stretch about 11 years. Currently the sun is moving toward the peak of a very energetic cycle which scientists expect to last through the middle of this year.
FYI... Sunspot causing issues... Couldn't lock onto a single sat this morning. Waiting almost 5 minutes then just unplugged the GPS stack. Just looked at the n3ki.org website and it's in the red... go figure. Josh
Yeah, ain't that the truth. That Kp Index = 5 is not something that you see that often. Maybe the Mayans' timing was a bit off? And to the weather here? Yeah: If I can't see downtown Portland from my studio it's raining. If I can see downtown Portland from my studio it's about to rain. Andy.
I have had 2 flying days in February. At least I have a fullsize gym at my work where I can still fly the smaller toys and I had a job inside a hangar with 3 Hercs, a 737 and a water bomber. Flying outside is hard to come by here in BC. Andy, I feel for you!
hehe... that is a saying we use up here too, with the north shore mountains and north Vancouver. Pretty much twice the rain as the rest of the area.
