I was trying to get my rig balanced tonight and realized I had no easy way of balancing it from a string to the exact center. Well, at least no easy way that I could figure out. I use Freefly's battery tray which contains a rectangle in the exact center which should also be the exact center of your rig. I made a part that snaps into that shape and has a 3mm hole that you can thread your string through and hang from your ceiling. I printed with the makerbot Replicator2 and it works great as long as you have 5mm of room under your battery plate.

You can download the thing here and print it out with your 3d printer There is also a link to the public tinkercad.com file if you wish to modify it. Enjoy!

I'm also including the .stl file.

Morgan this is great. Since I don't have a 3D printer do you have a suggestion of an online company that can print it? Maybe Shapeways?

Hi Gary. Shoot me your address and I will print one for you and send it out tomorrow. Least I could do for all you have done to this forum.

Can you also post an image, Morgan?
For those that don't have access to 3D printers, what I do is remove the Velcro from the battery tray, and then use two Portabrace piggin' strings that center above the battery plate's square hole -- then attach string/wire/whatever to that point.

Good solution. I'll see if I can cut some out of acrylic with a laser cutter. Bit faster than 3D printing, I suspect -- nice solution though, Morgan!

Here is what it looks like on the battery tray. It takes about 15 mins to print.

I was thinking today I could use something like this, while putting my HL together.
