    Hi,

I am trying to get the Axis 1 to work with the MoVI Controller.

We usually use a dedicated 1st AC. But, I have a small job where I will be trying to keep focus myself.

I have the latest Beta Software for the Controller from Freefly.

I have followed the instructions in the Manual that is available online.

The Axis 1 Receiver and Aux Receiver are bound correctly.

I have selected Axis 1 in the MoVI Controller, and I can turn the Focus Wheel and the lens moves.

But, I am not getting the full range of the focus wheel. It only covers a bit of the focus range on the lens.

Also, it randomly races through the range quite often.

    Axis 1 is Channel 6

    Movi is Channel 9

    Record Toggle works.

Is there a menu item or adjustment that I have missed?

I tried changing Map Focus Input to the Iris Wheel, and it works smoothly, and with the full range. No jumping or changes.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Ben:
If you go into the Tx Monitor window on the MC and operate the Focus Wheel, what range of numbers do you see when the Focus Wheel is fully counterclockwise and fully clockwise? Also do you see any tendency on the display to show the "randomly racing" if you rotate the focus wheel smoothly from fully CCW to fully CW?

And, just to be sure, by "latest Beta Software" you mean 1.1.2.0, right?

    Andy.

    1.1.2.0 is the Firmware Version

With it mapped to Iris: Fully left = 0.0, Fully Right = 99.9
At every step along the way, the motor never entirely rests. You can hear it pulsing slightly, working, but the lens gear is not moving. (This is at every point except min and infinity).

With it mapped to Focus: It's very jumpy, racing through the range. Randomly. I can have it at 5.9 and turn it slightly, it jumps to 100, and races the lens to infinity.

As soon as I then remap it back to Iris, it moves as expected.
(except for the motor entirely being at rest).

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks, Ben.
I've tried to reproduce the problem by:

    TX Config:
Map Focus Input : Focus (the default). Rotating Focus wheel shows focus smoothly changing in the TX Monitor for focus.
Map Iris Input : Iris (also the default). Similarly....smooth change for Iris in the TX Monitor
    Looking at the TX monitor:
Focus value 100.0 (Focus knob fully CCW), 0.0 (Focus knob fully CW).
Iris 0.0 (Iris knob fully CCW), 99.99 (Iris know fully CW).
    Swapped over:
    Map Focus Input : Iris.
    Map Iris Input : Focus.
Looking at the TX Monitor, both Iris (controlled by the Focus knob now) and Focus (controlled by the Iris now), move smoothly.
    Tx Monitor screen shows:
Iris value 99.9 (Focus knob fully CCW), 0.0 (Focus knob fully CW).
Focus 0.0 (Iris knob fully CCW), 99.99 (Iris know fully CW).

I both cases, both Tx Monitor -> Focus and Iris show smooth movements...I tried rapid back and forth rotation, but in all cases the Tx Monitor screen shows tracks along with what I'm doing mechanically with the knobs.

The most troubling thing is that you see the "racing" on the Tx Monitor screen -- that pretty much eliminates the FIZ hardware on the camera -- it sounds like it's just trying to "obey" what it's being told to do.

I think the next move is to email to support@freeflysystems.com and ask for assistance. Save yourself some typing and reference the link to this thread.

Sorry I've not be able to help more.
    Andy.

Afterthought: See if Freefly support will send you the prior production version of the MōVI Controller firmware and "upgrade" to that....see if the problem changes.

    Thanks Andy,

I have been in touch with Freefly.

I had to upgrade to the Beta Firmware on the Controller, after the M15 was repaired recently. (It cane back with Firmware on it that does not work with the release build on the MoVI Controller).

We usually avoid Beta's. But, had no choice on this one.

Oh....that's right...I remember that thread now you mention it.
I spent some more time doinking around with the MōVI Controller, but I cannot get the Tx Monitor screen to show any kind of jumping around no matter what I do.

    Andy.
