I recently purchased a CS8 heavy lift kit. It came with the MK Quadro XL PDB/ESC board. To my eyes, the holes in it don't appear to align with the mounting holes on the CS8 upper hub plate. How does one mount this board to the CS8 hub? Pictures would be a great help! Thanks.
Look through my build thread. It’s in there. It does fit, but you need some new parts... http://forum.freeflysystems.com/ind...-8-upgrade-for-medium-heavy-lift-8-10kg.3079/
Dan: I suspect other forum members will make the same error -- could you elaborate on what the error was so you can save a few hairs being pulled out? Andy.
I have a set of BL 2.0 from an older AD-8 build. I couldn't wrap my head around the thicker Double Quadro board. The standoff threads aren't long about and I didn't think about using the nylon bolts. So now, I think, the correct way to attach it would be to flip the nylon standoffs upside down and use a nylon nut on the backside of the center plate. Then use the nylon bolts to go through the board from the top into the threaded female side of the upside down standoffs. A picture is worth more than my words. If my understanding is incorrect, I welcome correction and criticism.
Dave: Is there a need to avoid over-tightening those nylon screws --- or do you put an unthreaded spacer in between the two PDB boards? Andy.
That's a great questions Andy. Thanks for helping with the details. Anyone else find it particularly odd that we spend $15,000+ on a kit that comes with, essentially, zero instructions? It's baffling. I can't think of another product that this would, ahem, fly with.
Hi Andy The board comes with spacers in between the boards already so its not possible to compress the boards together any more than the spacing that's between them. This board really doesn't need 8 screws either, 4 of them will suffice and I just tighten them to where they are snug
Both of my boards have the spacers that I show in the picture below. There are 8 of these spacers between the boards and these are thet spacers that the nylon screws go through. If you don't have these spacers in between the boards there's nothing to prevent the boards from touching each other.
Hello Dan, Yes, the M15 standoff inverted with the M16 screw down through the PDB is the correct assembly configuration. We found that mounting on the four (4) perimeter mounting spots is sufficient. The v3.0 PDB is much more rigid than the v2.0 and aligning the eight (8) mounting spots to the standoffs can be quite the exercise in patience. We shot a video addendum to the RGG "CS6/8 Build Guide" last week and I will post the link here once the editor sends me over the YouTube link. Until then, please let me know if you have any additional questions. Greetings, Adam
Dave, mine is the "cool" version, so there's a very large heat sink in the middle to hold the boards apart. Perhaps that is why there are no spacers.
Hi all. My new board has the selectively dabbed conformant spray to avoid campfires. I'd like to give all my new boards a conformal coating or two before I build. Has anyone sprayed this new board over? It's surface and composition is fairly different. Are there any areas that should be avoided other than those outlined in Andy's RTG?
Two more BL3 questions. In prepping for the spraying, it became painfully obvious that we might be able to spray the TOP and BOTTOM of the assembly, however, the inside surfaces are not easily/practically sprayed, yet still contain vulnerable components. Any ideas? As you can see from the picture, the alignment of the middle cooling layer appears to be in error. I simply can't get an M3 bolt through it for mounting. Has anyone seen this? I'm reluctant to drill it out, and will need to return/replace it. Just wondering if anyone else has seen it and enjoyed a week delay in assembly too. 5 or six of the perimeter holes are like this.
