I'm thinking of doing a makeover of my MK CS8 in anticipation of the synapse and HL.

Let me know what yall think. I'm a DJI n00b.

All suggestions, recommendations, comments and snide remarks are appreciated.

    Current
    MK 2.2 w/ navi/gps
    MX-20
    4S Batteries.
    CS8 450mm booms
    14x5 xoars.
    QC 3328

    New bird plans.
Naza2 w/ gps. Any suggestions on how to mount the Naza?
MX-20. Sum out to a Naza?
    4S and 6S batteries.
    CS8 500mm booms
    15x5 xoars???
    QC 3328

    FF Motor Control Set
    or
Gryphon Power Disc Dual BEC OCTO w/ ztw(simonK) 65a ESCs

Im not expecting a great heavy lifter but it would be nice to get longer flight times/more payload.

    Please advise.

Matt that looks like a good setup. You might check with QC on running 6S with the QC 3328's. I've run 5S but haven't heard on anyone running 6S. Might make a difference on prop size. Run the combo through www.ecalc.ch and see what you get for results.

I just saw the Gryphon Power stuff in an announcement from Kopterworx. Pretty clean looking design. Would be good to get some feedback on how it is working. Haven't heard of anyone flying the ZTW brand. Can tell you that the FF set is performing solidly. Temps yesterday were 90+ and the motors and ESC's were slightly warm to the touch. Meant to take a laser temp but forgot. This is running 4S, 15x5 at about 7kg. Mounting the FF setup gives a very clean setup. Fits nicely in the center ring. Then it is only a matter of choice of doing the internal motor wire run as you probably have now or switching to an external run which I found to be clean and easier if you need to disassemble as quoted from Number 5.

And if you think you are going to move to the Synapse in the future you may want to consider keeping the MK stack and getting the Abusemark i2c converter. Many folks are having good results with that setup. QC is now stocking the converter and Adam has at least 1 copter flying with it.

    Thanks Gary. :)
QC's site lists the QC 3328 as 3-6s. I'll let you know how it goes.

To be honest I'm little lost in ecalc. Is there a tutorial/walk through resource? Motor cooling? Include drive? Include weight of camera/gimbal/battery?

FF ESC max vs. continuos amps?

I have seen some impressive heavy lifters running ztw ecs. Their 65a weigh the same as the 45a and run cool. I keep finding myself returning to the FF system.

Matt put in the parameters for the Tiger MT2814-14 710, change the Manufacturer back to 'select' and change the KV to the QC motor to 700kv. Should look like this which will be close for your comparison. Your other questions,

    Motor Cooling - Good
    Include Drive - Yes
Include weight of camera, etc - yes, total all up weight of the ship with everything that you fly

Here is another one for you Gary, Resistance for QC 8000s and FF 9000 4s batteries?

    Resistance/max current of FF ESC?

I'm sorry I can't seem to find this info in the google machine :/

    Thanks.

Matt they are 40 amps. I don't know what the peak is. Resistance on my my FF 9000 as I see it on the Hyperion is usually about 4 ohms. And about 6 ohms on my QC 8000.

    Build update:

Installed FF motor control set. It just seemed like the best solution.

I ordered a Graupner telemetry module and I am hoping to be able to solder that onto the FF distro board. Hopefully I can get voltage and ESC temps on the MX-20.

Still waiting on my NAZA2 :/

    Pix coming soon.

Do I need to set the throttle range of my FF ESCs?

    Ex:
plug each separately into the throttle channel of my rx and enter programming mode?

Copter is built! I keep changing things so i'm waiting to post some pix stay tuned.

Follow what ever directions are in the Naza manual for setting the ESC's.

Which Graupner module did you order. You likely will not see temps from the ESC's as they don't have any data output.

    APC 14x5.5MR
    Naza V2

Mounted GPS puck to airthechno motor mount. These have a nice oval hole for protecting exposed motor wires on the ends of booms ;)
