Peter, it is more likely that the front to back isn't working out. On my NEX-7 the balance point front to back would have required the 1/4-20 screw to be directly over the cross bar. That doesn't work without modification. So the sliding camera rail might be a better solution for you. It worked for me without adding the adjustable tilt bars, at least for the NEX.
