    Thanks for posting that. I noticed the roll goes sideways at times. Is that the camera op or is it doing that on its own?

    I asked him about that, and he said he thought he might have been doing it; I'm guessing it's a little of each though. The 'I' value for the roll is set extremely low right now, and it could be that it's taking the controller too long to track back to level if it is panned while the yaw axis is not vertical (hovering in wind, or flying about). For next weekend we're preparing a planned shot rather than just flying and shooting with no coordination, I'm giving him a mode that disables roll control, I'm going to fiddle with the PIDs on the controllers, and I'm going to tune down the response to control inputs, and maybe add some expo for him.

    Also, Bill, this was your thread, let me know if you'd prefer me to start my own to track my progress. Your project was similar so I just posted here, but maybe I shouldn't have.

    Wow, Steve, those motors are screaming.
    I've got the parts to do this now, but I feel like the tilt with radian and servo is pretty good, since my gain is around 270!
    I would want this on the roll, but the big question is if during sideways acceleration the alexmos controller will stay level or not?
    Also, having brushless on the roll would make it easier to balance.

    I see the 5206 are rated to handle up to 1.5kg, are there any gimbal bl motors available that can handle up to 4kg?

    Yeah they sure are :/ Unfortunately (but probably predictably) it's looking like an airframe update is on the horizon.

    Yes, the ones in the Movi! Lol.
    First test of the motors on the bench and I'm amazed how little the holding power is, even with the largest motors on the market. I can easily rotate it by hand to the next pole. Balance will be crucial, but even then I can see it having problems with large cameras in high winds/ bouncy conditions. I might experiment with two motors in parallel. Then things start to get heavy.

    Tim if you get it well balanced on the bench do they have enough power to tilt up and down?

    Yes, I think it will be able to move a balanced camera fine, but my feeling is that it will start to get to a point where air turbulence and other disturbances will prevent it from being a perfect stabilizer. The heavier the camera, the worse it will get.

    I wish I would have been flying my new gimbal. The weather her is been the s&%^s. And they are calling for thundershowers for the whole weekend.
    @David, I'm located in Montreal.
    @Kjetil I told I have to wait until I have the parts in my hand before I commit. Soon.
    Besides I have to make sure 100% that the system works.

    Perhaps you are right Tim. That's why I have two gimbals here. One totally brushless and one with brushless tilt and belt and pulley for the roll. I'll be testing both of them in a week or two.
