I've been using the original Radian firmware (that came on the beta units). Today I updated all three to 1.03. Then I connected to the roll Radian to program it. I load the standard roll settings and when I switch it on it does it's normal kick, then slowly drifts in one direction or the other, and within about 20 seconds it turns the gimbal as far as it can (gimbal is stationary on a table). I've tried reflashing and then tried flashing to 1.02, and I still get the same result. When I move the roll axis then stop, the "current angle" number continues to move. It has lost its sense for what the current angle is. Suggestions? Thanks!
If you do (which you don't really need for the Radian unless you want to do special effects) you may need to sub trim the channel or raise the dead-band a little. John
OK that is strange. One of the best characteristics of the Radian has been the stability or the ability to maintain level. Can you take a screen shot of the tool settings?
Thanks for the suggestion. Any other ideas? What's really odd is that the current angle value moves despite the fact that the gimbal isn't moving.
No worries. Yes, it's level. All was working fine before the firmware update. Should've left it alone I guess.
Sorry Ben, I wish I could be more help but that almost sounds like it is defective to me. Have you updated the other ones yet and are they OK?
I updated the others, but haven't messed with them yet. Started on the roll axis and got stuck there. I'm wondering if the new firmware is compatible with the beta units.
2nd Update: I tried swapping another Radian beta module onto the roll axis. I run into the same issue. I'm starting to wonder if the beta Radians are compatible with the updated firmware when using them on the roll axis. Or maybe my firmware download got corrupted somehow (doubtful).
Here's a video. The password is blue. Pay close attention to the end where the gimbal slowly rolls on its own. Sorry for the poor quality - I'm not use to shooting with a phone!
Ok that is officially strange. Hopefully John C will see the note from Andy and be able to chime in. Love the lantern....nothing like building your CS by the light of a good kerosene lantern.
Hey guys, Thanks for the video Ben : it does give some clues. As I remember, the roll mounting orientation for the modules switched 180 degrees from the beta modules. This meant you need to remount the modules accordingly when you use the newer PC software to set the orientation. If you hover the mouse pointer over the buttons to set the module orientation, you will see a help bubble appear which describes how it should be mounted. Lets us know how you get on .... JohnC
