I'm running Xoar 14x6 with stock DJI motor mixer and it works well - upper spinning CCW and lower CW. Getting 6 minutes with 4x 5000 6S, Epic, Ziess 25mm, downlinks, batteries, etc - 24lbs total. Been searching around and so far have come across the below regarding X8 - I still need to test: smaller props w/ more pitch are more responsive, larger props w/ less pitch are more efficient (I'm opting for more response due to a battery issue I discuss below). The sweet spot prop based of Ecal running 40-60 ESC & Tiger 3515 is: 14x6, 14x7, 15x5, 15x4.7, 16x4 So it seams the options/configurations are: - same size props - lower motors spin 10% faster - same size props - lower prop with more pitch - motors spin the same - same pitch props - upper are 1in larger - motors spin the same - upper prop 2 in larger low pitch 16x4 - small prop with high pitch 14x7 (for example) I'll be testing all configurations out in the coming weeks - ultimately it sounds like you want the bottom prop to spin faster than top. I will say from my experience make sure to get good batteries! Zippy's are crap, Nano Tech A-Series 65-130c is good - I'm now using Giant Power Nano 65-130C 6S 5100Mah (I'm a distribution now if you need batteries). Make sure you get a high C rating since the volts fall off curve does not just drop off like cheap batteries. I've had an Epic fall from the sky with 23Volts at full power with 40C rated batteries, lucky after 100 foot decent at full power it slowed enough not to damage anything except some landing gear.

and you guys running 6S with the 3515 400kvs? On all the specs it says 8S so had to run 4S in parallel. Great news if 6S is good
Hi Gary...Apologies, was thinking of the 4014 400kvs. Do you need a motor mount to fit the motors on the cinestar motor plate or will the 3515's fit
Hi Katya, That don't actually fit but you can drill holes. We put 2 mounts together... 1 turned 90 degrees to the back of the other. This lets you use the other mount as a template.
Thanks Brandon. So just to be clear I would just need longer screws but can adapt the existing cinestar motor mounts by drilling new holes or are you saying I would need to order more mounts?
Same mounts just modified. Same screws. The new hole will be incredibly close to the existing 2 holes.
Yes I'm running 6S w/ the 3515's, I run a few different battery configurations depending on weight and required flight time. - Epic w/ master primes = 4x 5100Mah 65-130c in Parallel (20,400Mah) = 5 minutes of solid flight with 3.8volts left. - Epic w/ Canon-Nikon = 4x 5100Mah 65-130c in Parallel (20,400Mah) = 6 minutes of solid flight with 3.8volts left. - Canon 5D MK3 w/ Canon 24-70mm IS = 4x10,000Mah 35-60c in Parallel (40,000Mah) = 18 minutes of solid flight with 3.8volts left.
Something sounds seriously not right with your setup and flight times. An Epic with canon or nikon prime on dual 6s can average 10mins easy but you're running x4 5k 6s and getting a solid 6mins? We're on 4s @ 16,000 mAh and averaging 6-7 mins with an Epic or F55 with nikon or canon prime and follow focus. We're at approx 21-22 lbs fully loaded
Hi Howard, I could push it for longer flight times but I bring it down before 23volts loaded, I have plenty of batteries to swap out quickly. I had an Epic fall out of the sky once due to battery voltage while loaded - luckily it slowed enough that there was no damage so now I'm very conservative with my set up and only use high C rated batteries. Also my shoots usually require me to fly pretty fast since they are shooting at high frame rates so power draw is pretty high. I'm running 14x6 Xoar's and could probably get more efficiency out of 16x4's but I like how responsive it is when I need it.
Yeah I was shocked, it was flying great. IOSD was reading 22.8v and had one more shot quick to do. It was at about 150ft shooting a hotair balloon, then just descended - fast. Flipped on GPS, full throttle and contemplated catching it when it was about 10 feet over head... then I saw the props and decided against that idea. By that time it had slowed enough and it landed pretty hard but in sand which helped. Broke a few carbon fiber parts and my ego since it was in front of a good sized crew but had replacements and was up and running in a few minutes. They just thought it was part of the show After that, I concluded it was the battery volt/fall off curve due to the weight (when on the ground the batteries where reading 23.5v), I sold all my batteries and now only use highend / high c rated batteries (65-130) and once it hits 23v I bring it back.
