Attached is the custom motor mixer many people use with DJI.

If you search the threads here, many have speculated that the DJI X8 mixer with all top props going one way and bottoms going the other is a problem because of the loss of thrust to the lower motors in a X8 setup. It certainly seems as though the bottom motors could have different yawing characteristics. Not so much the actual yaw power, but because they should be working harder, calculating the differential may be beyond the scope of the flight controller. That's not necessarily an issue with a mixer of the type Michael provided.

But Michael, shouldn't M5-M8 be given slightly higher values? That's the way my MK mixer is set up (about 5% additional thrust to the lower motors).

Steve: I think you are probably right. I have not tried taking the lower motors beyond 100% so I am not actually sure if they support that. If not, I guess you could lower the upper motors 5% and try that way too.

    Steve and Michael

Should I increase M5-M8 5% on throttle only or for all, pitch, yaw and roll?

Mark: What configuration and mixer set up are you using?

I'm in the process of putting together an X8 and was planning on 16" props top and bottom with a WKM fc and I was going to start with the mix you posted above. I know some people suggest increasing the bottom motors' power by 5% and I am looking for clarification if you need to make just the throttle mix 105% or do I need to make pitch, roll, and yaw 105% (or -105% depending on motor) as well for M5-8.

    Hope that makes sense.

Yep - understood. Bottom motors get higher power across the board. I never tried to see if the mixer allowed for 105 on the bottoms or if you would need to use 95 for the tops. Essentially you are looking to keep the top and bottom motors working equally and because the bottoms motors are accelerating air already in motion they need to spin a little faster than the top motors.

    Best of luck with it!

I would love to see a side by side test from stock settings to the new mixer. And what benefits you gain.

I fly the legacy WKM. I use the same props top and bottom with very little noticeable issues. It is not recommended with DJI FC's to change the prop configuration. You can do a modified mixer. But I found that it is not really that much of an advantage.
