Ok, so parts have started arriving for the next build, and I'm looking for a bit of advise, has anyone tried running the U8 motors with the new BL 3.0 controller?

I'm interested in the regenerative braking and waypoint flying, hence trying MK again.

If anyone has some experience with their trials they would like to share, that would be great ;)

    Cheers

    Chris

Chris, what props are you planning to use? And are you going coax or flat?

    G'Day Steve,

I've just got my 28" props, so its going to be an x8 config.

    Cheers

G'day Chris: Tell me you didn't just find some metal bed-frame out in the bush and decide to strap some tinnies of XXX to it.....and then get the whole lot airborne with U7's and 28" props....

    Andy.

    Hello Chris,

I would encourage you to contact the support staff over at HiSystems-- support(at)hisystems.de with the details of your project (motor/prop combo).
MK ESC v3.0 have proven to be...umm...particular to certain motors and props.

    Greetings,
    Adam

If I was embarking on such a project, I’d be inclined to order a single BL 3.0 (not the full power distro board) and tether it to a bench with one motor and one prop and work out the timing and other settings. I think with such big motors and props, the likelihood of a electrical indiscretion of some sort taking out a $1000 board is pretty high if you’re running a full setup.

Thanks for the heads up Adam,

I just got a response back from HISystems, indicating that the U8 combination should be fine with the BL3 ....

Now I just have to wait for some parts to come back from the machine shop to see ;)

    Cheers

Those numbers for the U8 are rather staggering (including the price). Which (KV) model are you using? And what’s the targeted payload/mission? And don’t tell me it’s to lift 1/2 a Gaga. :D

Nope not interested in lifting anything gaga .... Looking to being able to fly long enough for HD broadcast, now we have the teradek bolt pro, so carrying camera head that can output 1080p at 422 colour (D800/Pocket or our 4K) for a reasonable time frame.

Trying the higher KV rated motors, probably a couple of weeks before it is ready for flight testing ...

Curious what a "reasonable time frame” ends up being...are you thinking 30+ minutes?
