Hi everyone, I'm just curious if anyone has any suggested settings for flying a 5D3 + 24 1.4 with the M5. I can't get much more than Pan Stiffness 20, Roll Stiffness 20, Roll Stiffness 10 without it oscillating - yet on the video they seem to have settings like the Pan Stiffness set at 120 or 130. That was with a 70D + 16-35. Any recommended settings for my shooting setup? Thanks in advance!
Hi Bruce, Start with these suggested numbers in this spreadsheet. Also, if you haven't already, make sure all your axis-points are well balanced. Tabb and the Freefly team put the Google doc together - hope it helps!
I would reiterate what Drew said. You should definitely get much higher values then that. I would suspect balance of at least one, if not more then one of the axis's is not set right. This can really affect things.
Bruce: On the M5, with the 5D3, 24mm 2.8 IS (with lens hood), I'm seeing: Pan stiffness: 99. Roll stiffness: 49. Tilt stiffness: 15. Obviously your lens is different, but that's what I've found works well. As Drew and Nicolas point out: Balance is critical -- along with making sure that the camera is mounted rigidly to the cage, top and bottom -- with no discernable play. Andy
