kjetil, I believe others are simply connecting them with a y servo cable, then flipping the servo connector on one motor so they are both turning the same way. I have parts coming to try this same setup.
I don't think you can get the massive torque you get from belt drive I don't care how powerful the motors are. When Freefly designed the cinestar they knew what they were doing, less stress on the servos and more torque. So why spend that kind of money on a knew motor when the 5208 and 5108 will do the job with the reduction. Bill
Hi Mario I can't wait to see what you are cooking the machining on those parts look really nice the main hub reminds me of a bicycle hub Bill Q. I know that you don't have Radiants but I wondrer what is better for the pan 1 FF Servo + Radiant OR 2 5208 or 5108 + reduction 1 for better torque 2 for smoothens better integration with the DD tilt and pan motors currently I have 5208 on tilt and 5108 on roll
Jose, What camera are you using? Is it handheld or air born? Are you DD on tilt and roll or BD? If I had a Radian I will use it on the pan. Is stronger and lighter. On tilt and roll I'll go 8108's direct or 5108 with belt or double 51's DD on tilt. I found that to be the best combo Some of my clients requested direct drive on the tilt and later they wanted the belt drive. The 5108"s would not handle the RED on DD I am talking of 6.45KG on handheld. So, is a matter of trying different combos and come up with the right one.
The new setup I'm working on now is 8108's on pan and roll and double 5108's on tilt Just curious to see what it will do. Bill
Thanks Bill Im light weight for now 5D or so, but want to get capable ready for heavier cameras, now I have a flying rig 1, 5208 on tilt DD 1, 5108 on Roll DD 1 FF Servo with Radian BD A post from John Gore got me thinking We recently built a brushless gimbal specifically for RED Epic / Scarlet. 2 axis brushless, with the pan using servo with belt reduction and radian. Results were pretty good, but at times one can see a small amount of unwanted movement on pan. The pan only starts to look "bad" because the tilt and roll are so very very good with brushless. We used 8017-120t iPower motors for tilt and roll on Alex Mos. FreeFly servo + radian on pan. http://forum.freeflysystems.com/index.php?threads/another-cinestar-3-axis-brushless-mod.1665/page-4 I run the tilt and the roll with Alexmos board and Spektrum DX8 with AR8000 and a Satellite, to run the the radian pan I use a second Spektrum satellite, both satellite receivers are bind to the same transmitter it works, I guess thats how others have done it, my flight transmitter is a Graupner I am thinking to adding Graupner receiver and tap in to the Spektrum tilt so I can tilt when solo flying any ideas on this? Bill Q, to connect the 2 motors like 5108 for tilt, is there anything special, like making a servo Y and make sure the motor cable polarity is the same, is the board ok with driving 2 motors on one of its Axis? I know others like Mario have done it I look froward to your new combination build Thanks
Jose you have to run them in parallel with a "Y" harness. One motor you connect one way and the other you flip the connector. In another words on one connector the black wire is on the right and the other connector the black wire is on the left. The driver on the Alexmos can handle two motors even the 8017. Bill
