This is the new IR Ctrl from MK. http://www.quadrocopter.com/IR-Ctrl-Camera-Remote-Control_p_569.html Cheers, Jeff
Oh many thanks Jeff, i place my order from QC (not very happy with the Strato Snapper). All the Best. Marc
I"ve had great success with the StratoSnapper. Especially if you have a number of different camera types. Also has the ability to trigger wired cameras. Not sure if the new item from MK can do that.
Starting to run out of room on the gimbal with so many circuit boards on there. The little IR Ctrl works perfectly. The zoom is nice but I underestimated what a convenience it is to have remote start/stop. The fact this thing can learn any IR command and plug into any receiver makes it universally useful for any camera with a IR detector. Too bad more pro cameras don't have them! Thanks for sharing that demo, Jeff. Love this thing! nick
Nick, Megan makes a strong point. 2 snickers bars on the build table! Really??? I was going to comment on the messy wiring but she distracted me with her humor
No salads in this shop, guys! And Tabb, for Christmas I'm going to get you some wire cutters so you can fix those rats nests you have!!
Nick: Do you find that the IR LED works OK, pointed away from the CX760 -- I could see it working on the table top/indoors where there's IR reflections in the room, but does it work OK in bright sunlight? What I did, in my ignorance, was to cut back the heatshrink a bit, bend the wires to reverse the direction the LED is pointing then add my own heatshrink so that the LED stares back at the CX760. I've not flight tested it yet, though.... Andy
Hey Andy, I just realized I missed your last question. From that other thread it seems you figured out the solution to the issue you were having. But I will say we have not had a problem with the IR LED point out away from the camera- even in strong sun light. Regarding your mod, I think that would only increase reliability. nick
Not a problem, Nick. With the lens hood mounted on the front of the camera, you can shield the IR sensor/LED from much of the direct sunlight so its pretty rock solid. Andy.
I'll second that Andy. Amazingly enough, I also choose to use white elec tape. I'm having great results with this zoom control.
Once I provided the MK IR Trigger with it's own Recom 5v/1A clean +5v DC -- then it was rock solid! Andy.
I am having trouble programming my mk ir ctrl. do i have to have the remote control of the camera so i can program it? i am trying to program a sony nex6 and the MK wiki is very basic.
Have you used the LED liveVIEW cable for Canon? I'm debating which to use, that or the stratosnapper for my canon. The manual for the liveView doesn't say it can switch between stills and video, but QC's site says it can. Hopefully someone can shed light on this for me.
Hi Kristian: No I've not used the LED LiveVIEW cable, sorry. I've certainly used the Stratosnapper and it works very well. Andy.
Well Andy, you've always given me legit advice and I trust your opinion. Stratosnapper it is for me! Thank you again!
The only issue with the Stratosnapper I've seen is that with the Canon 5D Mk III, if you dawdle with the shutter trigger in the "fire the shutter mode" you can get multiple exposures, but that's pretty easy to deal with. Andy.
