Hi Epic users, How are you sending video from your heli/multi back to your ground station? Are you simply using an HDMI to composite converter or are you sending full HD via a Teradek or something similar. Just curious because most camera operators wouldn't need to see full HD for their duties. Any technical details relating to setting up the Epic for wireless transmission on an RC craft...type of transmitter, wiring, powering etc. would be great. We're currently using 5.8 500mw transmitters. I've searched the forums but can't find any info on this. Thanks! Howard Dapp
Hi Howard, I am using our HDMI converter stuck to the side of our EPIC. Let me see if I have a pic handy. Tabb
Thanks Tabb, I see your converter at QC's site. Very nice lightweight and compact. A photo of the setup would be great. Does the included HDMI cable plug directly into the Epic's HDMI port with no adapters needed? Howard.
Tabb/Howard, I've got an enquiry from a producer who wants to me to fly his Red Epic (me happy to fly other people's Red!) What kind of flight times are you seeing on a C8 with 6200 mAH, please?
Hi Howard, No the plug included with the HDMI converter we sell is the type C size on both ends. We are currently producing one that will work with the Epic and it's full size HDMI plug. I just bought a normal cable for the time being.
Hi Andy, I am not currently flying the EPIC on a CineStar 8 but a heavy lift CineStar prototype. The CineStar 8 was getting around 4 minute flight times with the EPIC depending on setup. The EPIC really stresses the MK components to their limits though so be careful! Tabb
Thanks for the info. Andy, I'm not flying the Epic but will be in the near future. Tabb, with the standard CS8 and Epic are you getting 4mins running 4s or 5s? Which lens? There's not a lot of discussion in the forums re: flying an Epic/Scarlet on a multi. There's quite a few sample vids out there but no real discussion on techie details like ideal motor/prop combo, flight times on 4s/5s, best LIGHTWEIGHT yet quality lens for these cameras when used on our platforms. How about we start here...maybe others will join in and share their knowledge. Thanks, Howard Dapp
Hi Guys, Its been a while since anyone posted here. I am trying to figure out the downlink that is on the setup mentioned. I understand the HDMI goes into the HDMI converter .. however then what ? Into a Transmitter ?? Cheers. J
Hi Jasper The output of the HDMI converter uses a composite video that will plug into the input of your transmitter.
Hey again .. Whilst we are on the topic of getting the RED Epic into the skies. I am trying to source out a place to buy a power cable for the epic. One that goes from the 4pin Lemo into either a JST or XT60 connector. Anyone know anywhere to get one ? Or even a 4 pin lemo into free wires that I can solder up... The one from the Snow Dragon setup uses one that goes into a JST connection.
I don;t know which cable FreeFly used in Snow Dragon video, but you can buy a XT60 cable here: http://www.brushlessgimbals.com/p/8723946/90-degree-power-connector-for-red-epic.html By the way, can anyone link to a shop that sells HDMI to composite converter?
Thanks Mateusz! I actually had one made up in the end, from a guy with the same name as you. ha. In regards to the converter, I searched and searched for something compact, and ended up buying a converter from Jaycar or RadiaoShack in the states I think .. got my cable dude to then wire it all up drawing 5volt power from a separate lipo to the one powering the Red. Went for that option to give the Red as much juice as possible. The composite then goes into my TX.
What brand converter are you using? link? Do you have to change the reds hdmi output settings to a certain frequency or 720p? What about the frame rate? Does the red need to be 30fps like the blackmagic pocket? Sorry for the 20 questions...I'm trying to convert the red epic to my flysight but my etekcity hdmi2av is not working.
Hi, Did you solve the converter issue? I'm about to fly RED and looking for a HDMI converter. I have the one form kopterworx, but I can't make the video signal come trough. I don't know if the it's the settings in the camera or the converter... Any thoughts?
