Hey all, I'm adding fpv cameras to my rigs with 5.8 tx/rx. I bought one iftron tx and one readymade tx to compare. They both have similar wiring, with a yellow wire for the video signal with a bare lead. I snipped a male RCA plug off a cord and soldered it to the yellow lead so I could connect to the camera's female RCA. The RCA cable had two leads inside the insulation. I read somewhere that you just twist the two together. Is this correct? Seems counterintuitive. Also I'm powering the camera through its barrel plug, so I can just cap the power leads from the tx, correct? Thanks much if you can help.
Nick need a bit more information. Which FPV camera(s) are you using? What is the voltage min-max for the cameras? How are you powering the Iftron? The iftron will pass through whatever voltage it is getting. So if for example you were to use it with a 4s battery but the camera was only rated to 12volts you could smoke the camera. As to the RCA wires I would use a meter to check which wire is going to the outside (Ground) and which is the the center pin. Also photos always help on these types of questions.
Hi Gary, Thanks for the reply. The fpv cameras I have are from ReadyMadeRC. One is a RMRC-600XV the other is RMRC 420P. I'm powering them with a 3s lipo. The literature says it takes 12V +/- 10%. I'm powering the Iftron Stinger Pro tx 100mw with the same 3s lipo. Here's a picture of how it's currently wired. Thanks again for the help. Nick
Rather than use the wiring connector that came with the camera use the connector cables that came with the Iftron. You should have one that cable bundle that connects to the TX. That cable should already have a 3 pin micro molex on it. Other two wires are for power. The other cable you need, and i think it is included with the Iftron is this one. I run the RMRC-600. Plug the one end into the camera, ridges of the connector down and connector all the way to the right side of the plugin on the camera, and the other to the cable from the Iftron and you should be good to go. If you ever start using camera switchers or OSD devices i simply cut the Iftron cable and put on the appropriate splice points. Not a bad idea to buy a couple of extra ones of the extension cable. And of course this doesn't work as cleanly with the ReadyMade transmitter. Your wiring is about the only way to do it. Though you may want to get the camera cable from Iftron and do away with all of the RC connectors to save weight. Not a problem, at least I haven't ever had one with the cables not being shielded. I use a Zippy 2500 3S. They will give me about an hour continuous but I am running the MondoExtreme which is 1.5 watts. Let me know if this helps you out.
Lastly if you get everything settled and you find that you aren't getting good distance look at the BluBeam 5.8ghz wire antennas. They make a big difference.
Great info, thanks for the help Gary. I'll mess around with those today. And yeah love the bluebeams, they've been great on my 1.2s.
