Hey guys, I have a quick question regarding the great Radians, i did a reset and ran bootloader, and for some reason, one of them is not loading the new software (i have 6 total, all other 5 are working great) it recognize the board (ID request OK) and in the 'Current Version' window it shows 255:255... once i click 'program new firmware' it gives me the message 'Program Failed (program error)' what could be be the problem? (screenshots attached)

    thanks for your help!!
    cheers,
    Ziv

Ziv: I've not seen this problem before, therefore I'm going to have to defer to either Tabb or JohnC.
Sorry I cannot be of more immediate assistance.

Don't you just hate it when your the first person to discover a problem like this?? :(

How did you know about YE?

I doubt the answer is on Google yet -- but Google indexes this forum so it will be soon!

Hi Andy, any thoughts regarding my error? i still have the same problem, I tried to boot it again etc..
even when i just power the board up without short 5 and 6 pins, i have both lights solid..

    Thanks!

My first thought is that the Radians are defective....but I've not seen any bad Radians yet, so I'm reluctant to come to that conclusion.
Let me contact Tabb so he can look at this thread and see what he can suggest.

He did mention to me that the trick of shorting the pins on the Radian sensor to prevent entering Boot Mode, only works on the beta units not on the production sensors -- I hadn't been told that before, so apologies for wasting your time.

Thanks for the quick reply Andy,

    Cheers!

Understood. I emailed Tabb and asked him to review the thread and comment on the situation.

Sounds great! I can also do a quick short video if needed. (and like you said i dont think its a board issue, since before the reset, the lights where blinking on the board)
    ;)

Wow, things sure are bizarre for this one.

It looks like the config for the module has been wiped : the serial number is zero !. If it does not have a valid serial, the bootloader won't let you write firmware.

The thing which is puzzling me though is that the firmware in the file shows version 0.12 when it should be 1.02. If you connect the bootloader for a good radian and get a valid serial number when you connect, then if you swap it directly over to the bad one and click connect again and then you get zeros, the module is something wrong and needs to be exchanged.

I am wondering if this could have anything to do with the unicode problem where it needs changing to English : are you familiar with that from the other threads ?.

The "unicode problem" seems to be best described by Arthur as:

You have to change your Regional Settings in Windows to Unicode or English.
Once it's done It's possible to write on the Radian.
Try contacting Daisuke Ide here in the forum. He had this problem and found the answer.

    http://forum.freeflysystems.com/index.php?threads/do-not-write.183/#post-1407 (message #2).

JohnC: Is the Radian software susceptible to problems if the Regional Setting is other than Unicode or English? Just need to understand what the issue is for future reference.

    Thanks
    Andy.

    Andy,

I have a problem to reproduce the unicode problem on my PC : it seems like you need the Chinese version of windows installed for it to occur.

I installed the Chinese language pack and the only problem I had was trying to work out how to set the language back to English lol.

    Just to answer the question:

The answer, according to JohnC (who Knows About These Things) is yes.
    See this thread.
