    An odd question, I know...
I'm doing a shoot where my copter is going to be used as a police drone in a chase scene...it's all lettered up with custom white carbon fiber "police" graphics.
A friend who owns a police supply house is lending me these 12v (cigarette lighter plug in type) police strobes. They're light weight and will fit just about perfectly atop the battery once removed from the housing.
I'm curious if there's any way to run these off an 11.1v zippy battery that I use to power the 5.8 stinger.

    Thoughts?

The power draw (1.5 Amps) might drag down the battery pretty fast, but from the voltage point of view the Zippy's battery might be a bit low. I think you'll just have to try it and see what happens. :)

What I'm afraid of is that these are designed to be powered from a 12v lead acid battery and not a lipo...possibly frying it instantly.

    Hi Chris:
The LEDs don't care about the battery chemistry -- all they know about is voltage and current! :)
A 12 volt battery actually has a max voltage of around 13.8v, so if your LiPo really is 11v the voltage might be a bit low.
But if it's a 3S LiPo, fully charged, each cell will be around 4.2v so that would present a total voltage of 3*4.2 or 12.6v.

Here are the lights all rigged up.Re-balance the machine tomorrow and she should be good to go.
Sorry for the crappy video, my main editing computer went for the eternal sleep and all I have is MovieMaker until the new one arrives.

That's going to warm the cockles of many a State Legislator's heart -- they'll freak right out. Just imagine being on a freeway when one of those birds drops down in front of your windshield....

Jason: Yes...a 11.1v zippy. The same battery my stinger is running off of.

Andy: I took it outside last night to test the lights in the dark and noticed an "officerrrr of de "leeeeeew" doing radar just down the street where he usually is. I was so tempted! :D

I'm glad you resisted the temptation. You'd get done for impersonating a police drone...(ugh, hate the word drone).

    Hey Mike...
Things are going so/so...got a few things cooking in the fire! I attended a professional stunt rider event early in the summer and met a lot of riders. I try to attend every event and slowly, I'm getting work out of it (hence the chase scene).

Andy... I would NEVER! But the "thought" of his face as I hovered it over his cruiser made me chuckle!
I'll leave the 30 seconds of fame on the evening news for some other idiot!
