Completed all test flights now for the new heavy lift build with U7 motors, the SuperX flight controller was super stable, test weights 6.5kg, all up weight 14.5kg/32lbs http://aerialinspections.com.au/heavy-lifting/
Wow, that's some impressive numbers. Congrats! What hub/booms are you using? Folks are saying that the original Cinestar frame may not be suitable for this new generation of motors and payloads. I've heard of some folks moving to larger booms and more sophisticated hubs, and of there's the Syndrones and Gryphon Dynamics frames...
Hey Chris, yes we all are wondering what frame you are using. I just got my U7 motors and they are monsters compared to what we were using before.
Hey All, I'm running an X8 config cinestar, with modified plastic clamps and modified motor mounts. Today we successfully flew the epic with a tokina 11-16f/2.8 and Movi
Modified plastic clamps? Please.....Please use metal clamps. You can get them dirt cheap across the pond.
wonder if I can put my U7's on this frame? http://store.acecoretechnologies.com there's just no getting on top of this game....
Chris you are teasing us. Just as I was hoping to see the stability of the copter you cut it off!!! BTW: Can you send some of that nice weather our way!
Thanks Dave and Howard, That copter is super stable, the superx controller is really good, and having the motors averaging 48% or so in hover means there is heaps of headroom for when the wind gusts come on.
Seeing between 7.5 and 8.5 minutes depending on flying conditions with 17" ... Ecalc suggests about a minute more with 18" props... I'll be trying those out in the next week or so.
7-8 mins are very respectable numbers for your payload! Spinning 17" and 18" props"....the U7/490 is a beast of a motor. I would be very curious to know your current draw. I'm considering the U7/490 controlled by FreeFly 40A controllers on 6s.
Does anyone know of a source for these or any motor mount that can handle the U7? Famous Hobby site apparently only takes huge bulk orders and they say it takes 15-20 days. Quadrocopter is out of their HL motor mounts. I need some quickly! Any tips on where to find are appreciated. Also a heads up on the Gryphon frame. I got a tip that the folding frame version might not be up to snuff for coax setup with U7's. Apparently the folding joint mechanism is suspect and needs to be improved. Bummer as I had my cart filled out and finger on the complete order button, but cancelled.
Kopterworx makes a mount for their KW12s (which are U7s). Nothing fancy but it looks like it would get the job done. You can order through Famous Hobby, but need to go through aliexpress.com to do so. Their direct website is not working yet from what I heard. Also, those mounts need to be drilled out in the center hole because the U7s need more space to fit through. The QC heavy lift are definitely too small.
