This seemed to be inevitable. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...service-bans-drone-use-in-all-national-parks/
Hi Gary, In the late 90's when I started lifting cams I talked to a fellow Park Ranger and the only rules that came up were don't disturb/harass the wildlife and don't do anything that impedes another visitors enjoyment of the park. Fast forward where the prediction is that everyone will have their own personal drone is where the judgment of future park visitors gets fuzzy. I'm afraid this new policy is going to be an open challenge to the long range FPV gang to launch/land outside park boundaries and fly ridiculous long flights over the park and say/post, "look what I just captured and the Green Nazis can't do anything about it". :-( Cheers, Jeff
But then, when (or seemingly, if) the FAA issues FARs for sUAVs, there will prohibition to fly over the parks as there is now for, say, overflight of the Grand Canyon, etc. sUAV Pilots: Pawn to King's Bishop three. FAA: Pawn to Queen's Bishop five. NPS: I'm going to huff your king...oh, are you guys playing a different game? : : Andy.
Hello Andy, I believe Grand Canyon overflight is fine except for tour operators that need to follow predefined routes. However, below rim to rim is restricted except for Park operations. Jeff
Dust off those charts Jeff. Generally restricted below 18,000 MSL with a couple of approach corridors. https://www.faa.gov/about/office_or...nyon_overflights/documentation/SFRA_trail.pdf
