I've been buying these for a while. Have had several, and they work great. Takes a week or two to get here from overseas, but at about 1/6 the cost (and probably the same product!), I'd go this way: http://bit.ly/1kAmKDE

Every color of the rainbow. Look at their store.
Pay close attention to the details (which type of LED, the count/meter, etc.).
These are the ones I'm super excited about: http://bit.ly/KhmYi7
It's got 240 LEDs per meter in a double row. They're gonna be really bright.

My concern with LEDs is that they would affect the camera in certain situations - depending on their brightness. Dave mentioned to me a while back in one of the threads that he hadn't noticed anything in his footage during day flights but I'm curious about early morning/evening/night flights... Any additional thoughts?

According to the eBay listing, they require "12V 10A-12A for 5meters 3528 1200LED light strip".

If I only use two 120mm lengths on my booms for orientation, that'll require about 600mAh, which seems reasonable, considering I'm flying 16,000mAh at 24V on the main batteries. Or I hang a little Quadropower 1200 on the copter to power the lights non-stop for 2 hours. Right?

And WRT interference with the camera in certain situations (flying at night and/or foggy situations), that has not been an issue for me.

Thanks Steve. Sorry for my ignorance, but how do you have your LEDs wired? Do you have any photos?

I suppose you are cutting the strips to fit and then attaching your own battery connector?

Put some tape over the lights on boom 1 if they affect your footage.

I use a 2200 mah battery to power all my lights and FPV equipment. It lasts me about 30 minutes of flying time.

No photos at the moment. Rebuilding/upgrading to heavy lift. But yes, they're easy to patch together with a little 24AWG or so. The new MK power board has the LED controller and power warning blinker integrated, so I'll probably use that tap to keep it simple. I'm not going to overbling the copter, so I'll probably just put two rear/down facing sets of LEDs so I can see if the low battery warning engages.
My copter is in a coax X8 config with 8 motors on 4 booms, so it's quite a different look than the standard flat 8 Cinestar.

Dave, are you wired into the MK PDB's LED port? Seems like a good plan to have those double as low-voltage warning lights.

I got the U5's from Quadrocopter. They order them custom size wires to fit perfect and have bullet connectors. They didn't have U7's so I got them from www.getfpv.com from a tip that Michael gave me. I would have bought them from Jason Toth to help support a board member but they only had the 420kv ones.

    Dave,
can you do one flight with one 10.000 - 12.000mah battery pack?

I would like to see numbers there. I'm very impressed about your results, but gas is really a bit high during the flight.

    Thanks

Yes you could but I never fly with one battery. I've been in a few instances where the 2nd battery saved me. It's worth it to me. I agree about the gas data and I"m switching over to U7 motors next week.
