I'm building my own gimabal to do a different job, but from what I can see, they say the brushless motors on the Movi M10 are off the shelf motors, can anyone tell me what they are and who makes them? My appologies I spelt Gimball wrong.

I don't believe that they are off the shelf.

What they are saying is the they did not compromise quality by using off the shelf motors. They custom designed their own rather than using something from someone else. Everything about the MōVi is custom.

Sorry but these motors are not custom made. They may have rewound them, but they didn't make the motors from scratch. Even though they imply it.

How do you know they aren't custom made?

A good pal of mine works in that industry, says he's seen them before but doesn't know who makes them, (he's looking) they may be modified but they're not made from scratch. But I'm sure the people at Freefly would like you to think so. (makes them look clever and justifies charging more) I'm building my own gimbal, much simpler one for much less money. The Movi M10 is to expensive for what it does. I have the mechanics done and I'm using the same control board they use. Just looking for suitable motors. I'll find them soon. Even if I have to re wind them, which is not the end of the world, its not rocket science. I used to work for the European Space Agency, I have good access to very good engineers.

Veeerrry Interesting. How'd you obtain the Freefly control board?

Funny they come from the same source, but I'm sure they are not the only ones developing control boards and this time next year something better will be about. My source is very reliable, and I believe he has the finger on the right button. Why don't you think its the same board?

After seeing their setup in person it doesn't look anything like the Alexmos board. The FF board also has a lot of other features that the AM board doesn't have. IIRC the Alexmos board also causes the motors to whine when in use, which the FF gimbal is completely silent.

I've not seen the M10 up close, not sure if anyone has one in the UK so I can't comment, just going by what I read and what I'm told. When you saw it did you actually see the control board inside its mounting case, or just the outside.? I'm sure Movi have customized it to there own needs, not difficult to get code written if you have the money to develop it. I'd like to get my hands on one. Still wouldn't buy it for that price.

It's the refresh rate at which the motors are receiving the commands from the board. See this video which is using the alexmos board.

No I have not personally used the alexmos board but I have spoken to a few people who have.

Most if not all of our sound is recorded separately by a sound engineer, I'm not to bothered by a small amount of motor noise, the mikes are never next to the camera anyway, It looks pretty good from here, I don't here anything I shouldn't.

I wonder if Kenyon is thinking of building a DD system? This systems looks sooo ancient and cumbersome now.

Both Motors and Motor Drive are designed and produced 100% by Freefly. You won't find them anywhere else other then the MoVI.
