Hi Chris. From the specs I saw it doesn't look like the 1D series or 5D with grip will fit in the M5 camera cage. I'm in the same boat using a 5Dmk3 with grip.

But on the other hand you can get rid of the grip in about two minutes :p

At least in copter use the copter stays longer in the air without the grip. So in copter case I want to take it off yes.
Handheld use off course is another thing. I don't see it as a problem though. In any case.

Having to take the grip off will also make the rig about 3/4 of a lb lighter weight. I know it doesn't sound like much but every oz adds up very quickly for rigs like this.

I would never use a battery grip on the copter. I can feel a little wobble in the grips when they’re on, and that will translate to wobble in the air. Plus, you definitely don’t need two batteries, even if you have a super-effiicient copter. My single battery 5D Mark III bodies can shoot over a half hour of video easily, maybe even an hour on one battery.

But it doesn’t matter because I doubt it’d fit on the M5.
