Correct. My GH3 is the first camera I've used that required the HDMI Converter. The CX760V, 5DM2 and 5DM3 all have composite out.

Not so with my Leica M6. Maybe we need to fly only rangefinders.

I just want to monitor the camera output to take stills.

Yes that's what I mean. Are you saying that the camera feed blacks out on the FPV monitor when a still is taken? IF so how long? The camera feed for the Sony 760 blacks out when I take a still too but its only for a second.

I read some where the composite feed wouldn't work for stills for the 7D. Maybe that was incorrect? So what's better for stills?

I don't have a 7D, so I have no idea. But if it's like the 5D Mark III, it works for stills in Live View mode.

I use AV out and turn on live view and start the video on the ground and just take stills while the video is running. When you look at the video after there is a pause in the video where you took the still but you have a record of the whole flight along with the quality of the still that you have set up (Jpeg and or Raw) kind of the best of both worlds.

Just to clarify, you have to have it in Live mode for the HDMI output as well or just the composite feed? Does live mode reduce the picture quality at all? One of my friends whos' a 7D user says that live mode reduces the image quality even though you can still shoot in raw. I looked in the 7D manual and didn't see anything about that.

Live mode doesn´t degrade the video or photo that you are recording to your card it just streams the video to the screen or video out. The raw photo that you take is still the same raw photo.
Yes live mode needs to be on for both hdmi out (live) and A/V (live). for just playback no.
