Of course, you have to have the income against which to claim the deduction, but Section 179 is your friend as a small business owner. You have to put the equipment into service in the year that you claim the deduction, which means anything you ordered and paid for in 2012 cannot be deducted if someone (are you listening, SmallHD?) suddenly delays the delivery until January 2013. Sigh. Actually, to be fair, SmallHD only got a $100 deposit per DP7.... Andy.
