So that's the sound that an F5 and F55 make, eh? Gives you some ideas of the margins that Red are making.... Andy.
You have to love the Carousel of Technology. When do you get on the ride? Or do you wait until Black Magic Cinema 2? I suspect the answer is: you get on when you need to, knowing full well that what you buy is obsolete shortly after you buy it and with the understanding that you'll need to sell what you just fell in love with while you're still in love with it. Andy.
It really wasn't that long ago that the choices were 35mm, 16mm or betacam. Seems ridiculously quaint now. Smaller, lighter, faster, better, cheaper. The trend in camera technology is certainly on our side. It's a good time to be involved with aerial cinematography. Gotta say, though, I'd still like to throw an A-minima on a CS8 and go old school! nick
For me the choice is simple, F55. Although the price has not been officially released, it's speculated to fall 20k-25k. My main issue with the Epic is the raw workflow, it's a pain having to first transcode those raw files before edit. You need to invest in a serious edit station in order to process these files. You do have the option of investing in the soon to be released Meizler module which allows proxy recording but that is a $13K add on! Enter the F55 with its (non raw) on board HD and 2K high bitrate recording up 180fps and 4K on board recording up to 60fps @ 300Mbps! crazy. There's also the optional piggyback external 4K raw recorder for 180fps 4k recording and 240fps 2K recording. Global shutter means no jello or rolling shutter...unreal.
Howard, you can edit EPIC footage in premiere pro without transcode etc. I agree thought the F55 seems killer as long as it does not take too much ancillary 'junk' to make it fly.
Tabb, 12v 4-pin XLR power out back and the little audio connection box on the side can be removed according to that video I posted in the other thread. Looks kind of clean. We just need you to get your hands on one!
full menu control via the side screen..I'm betting it's no more difficult than getting a DSLR or FS100 in the air.
I can let you guys know what cameras will be dropping in price or be made obsolete - They are the ones I purchase.
LOL...me too Joe! I recommend you all buy an F55 right after I buy one....I am sure the price will drop by 50% Tabb
50% price drop? I'll take two please! speaking of that, there are horror stories over at redforum. One guy dropped 80k last week on an epic kit which is currently somewhere on a fedex truck en route to his address. Needless to say he's pissed! Hopefully he's able to get some sort of a price adjustment..ouch!
A little off topic but you guys are the big boys about camera here. A Red One Factory Refurbished for $4K is worth for ground takes? http://www.red.com/store/products/red-one-ssd-bt
