I rigged a D tap to lipo connection + to + straight though
    red positive to black negative

Im hesitant to plug it in, though I'm almost certain it will work. Does anyone have any inputs on this one?

I would not recommend to use a V-mount battery for the MōVi, unless you use a real large one (140Wh/7A current minimum) The motors need quite a lot of current in short situations, that a v-mount battery might not deliver, but a lipo does.

Wolf - that's what we've found...an M5 will draw 120+ watts when all 3 motors are straining. As you mention, the small V-Locks can't supply that much power over their integrated PTAP port, but the big V-Locks (and most AB's) can.
