Newb idiots. Just another non-rc media group purchasing rc equipment, going out making fools of themselves and becoming national baffoons.

Let me correct this by saying it was NOT this group that crashed. I've worked with this director and I'm his pilot when I'm stateside, I've taught them enough about flying over crouwds and the dos and don'ts of flying these birds. As soon as I was this post I contacted him about it and it was NOT their craft that crashed. They have a similar one and they were flying a red to capture there video.

Per the promoter's email to me last night.

Here’s the contact info for the owner of the company (Scott Hansen Productions) that was operating the octocopter at the event.

    Scott Hansen
    Director. Producer. Editor
    REEL

Please let me know if you need anything else.

    Sincerely,

From Scott there was three groups flying there, his was flying a red and the one that crashed had a canon DSLR. Scott's also does not have the blue tubing running to the gimbal like the one that crashed. I'm fighting to keep his name clear because I work with him and if things spiral out that it was his operating it can in turn look bad on me as well, that's why I'm fighting for him so much.

They probably want to reach out to Rob at the Bull Run to clear his name. I'm sure his name will be given when the police investigate and maybe the local FISDO.

Paul, are these guys flying commercially, and what part of "No Commercial Use" do they not understand? I'm pretty sure the law is going to start having a look at this type of thing. Local law enforcement is probably not up to speed on the restrictions, but when they are, they will start enforcing the rules. These guys are going to screw it up for everyone if their not careful.

Seems kind of weird that the promoter says there is one group and points them out. But really there are three?

Good grief, this DJI Phantom looks like it was right at the level of these guys' heads! Man, there were definitely a couple of super irresponsible cowboys at this thing. Jeez...

According to this article, things are getting a little more confusing...
    http://www.suasnews.com/2013/08/246...survive-bull-run-injured-by-falling-aircraft/

CBS 6 spoke by phone Monday night to Scott Hansen of Virginia Beach. Hansen claimed to own the remote-controlled aircraft involved in the incident.

Hansen, who directs and produces films, also leases specialized camera equipment, including his remote-controlled aircraft camera worth about $7,500.

Hansen said he leased the camera to someone involved with the Great Bull Run, but claimed he could not reveal the name of the operator without breaking a confidentiality agreement in their contract.

(I suspect the FAA might want to see that commercial contract. Via Twitter Scott said this after we had been given his name yesterday:-

@ScottHansenfilm @sUASnews not ours. We were flying at the east coast surfing championships all weekend. I heard about it though
    interesting times ed)

I checked Digital Thunderdome's FaceBook page yesterday after Richard posted the info, there was an image of their copter when they 1st purchased it. That image is no longer on their FaceBook page. Coverup? I'd say absolutely.

So it appears that Scott 1st denied ownership, then later confessed to CBS 6.

Can you define "Commercial Use?" Are we not supposed to do this for money?

Evidently I didn't get the memo.
