Really good to hear Josh, have a great shoot! and PLEASE when you return do something about those bearings, you've invested way too much into your business to sell it short now and I know you'll sleep better at night:)

    Josh:
Do you think these are settings that are generally applicable to other folks, or are they very specific to your copter, balance, payload, etc. etc.?

I would say they would be an ok starting point but you will need to tune from there. You also will need to make sure all your props a balanced. That was a big thing on mine that I had to do to ensure smooth flight.

We shot on Thursday in San Diego and it flew very well the whole time. We were even flying indoors. With the way it was flying before I wouldn't have attempted it.

I'm intrigued. What's "ALOT" Josh? What did you end up with the gains?

The gains haven't charge much from what I posted above. The part that takes forever was figuring out all the different things that I thinkin conjunction is making for the smooth video. Between balancing the props and motors, gains on the FC, settings on the converter, mods on the vibration isolators (I'll post that tonight), and testing some mods on the gimbal mounting plate. I'm now running two plates with 6mm spacers. Once that was all finished it came down to tuning the gimbal again.

    Hi Josh:
How did you end up balancing the motors? Just curious as to the apparatus you used.

    Andy.

Strapped my galaxy s3 to the booms with Velcro and used a vibration monitoring app. Then used some tape to balance ith

Special magic balancing tape or just ordinary PVC electrician's tape?
Any particular color work better than others? <evil grin>

Thanks, Gustavo. I was just curious as to what Josh was using. That video is a good demonstration.
And you must remember to use white tape, right? ;)

@Sedric: The out of balance motor produces a harsher sound with some higher frequency components to it. It's quite subtle I must admit, especially to my, cough, older ears....

@Jeremy: Many thanks. Armed with your link, I found that if you Google search for:
    self-adhesive copper
there are numerous suppliers. It seems to have several different purposes: shielding guitar pickups, etc.

Combine the sound with the "feel" and it's easier to tell.
Or better yet, use the Vibration iPhone app and have a hard number to go by.

But, if your motors are out of balance by themselves, that's a bad sign.

Yes my motors were not bad at all for balance. Some I couldn't even tell. I used it once I mounted to props as well to see how that went.

I have done multiple flights now after adjusting all the settings and I couldn't be happier with how the copter if flying!!! I still need to play with a few Radian gain settings (pretty sure it's the tilt) that is causing a minor twitch but it's not bad at all. I think I may even be able to adjust the roll gain to a higher gain setting but all in all it's almost exactly how it was before the upgrade. Im very excited! I was getting a little nervous after so many failed attempts to get it to work... Oh and the double plate for the gimbal mount is a MUST if you are flying heavier cameras... that has solved a lot of the odd bounce issues we were getting.

Josh congrats. I've got my CS8 flying pretty well with the ICE 50s and Hoverfly. But I seem to get less flight times with this setup than with the MK boards. Wonder if you can see any difference in your setup with the MK/I2C setup? Maybe the MK BL's are a bit more efficient?

Anyone know if you loose efficiency with larger esc's?

Not as long your esc's, batteries, motors and props are matched. You have to find the right combo.

Josh when you updated your converter were you getting the error "update.s19 missing"?
I tried 4 times and I get the same thing over and over.

Im getting much longer flight times with my setup. My old setup with dual 4s 6200's I was getting about 10min with a 5dmkii. Now I get about 18 1/2-19min.
