Has anybody been able to trigger the shutter of Canon 5D using the FRX Pro interface / Movi Pro?

We are able to trigger and shoot fine with the old Movi MC RX and universal adapter. However, this has a very limited range compared to the new FRX Pro.

    Mikkis:
Two things: for other forum users who might have the same problem, could you say how it was solved?
Also, if it's not too much trouble, would you be kind enough to change your user name to your real first name and last name, please? The reasons for this (and how to do it) are explained here: http://forum.freeflysystems.com/index.php?threads/real-names.497/

    Thanks

    Hi Andy!

Sure thing. I am under the impression that Freefly will post this soon anyhow.

With a little help from Freefly's engineers (thank you Freefly for great customer support), we figured out a simple way to trigger the shutter remotely through FRX Pro and Movi Controller for Canon EOS cameras. I will only go through the solution for Canon 5DS R since this is the camera we are using and built the wire for. However, the same method can easily be applied to any Canon camera. Just check out the pinout map from Google images for your camera.

    What you will need:

    1. Canon N3 Connector — 5-40€
    2. Freefly LANC Cable — 18€
    3. Soldering tools etc.
    Workflow:
    1. On the Pro CAM port (on the TSU): you want to use in 1 (GND) and pin 6 (LANC/open drain GPO)
    2. On the Canon N3 connector, solder the FOCUS and SHUTTER together (this will trigger focus before the shutter).
    3. Solder the Canon FOCUS + SHUTTER cable to the LANC Signal (pin 6) on the Freefly LANC Cable.
    4. Solder the N3 GROUND to the Freefly LANC Cable GND (pin 1).
    5. Set the camera trigger type in the Mōvi Controller to ARRI RS.
    6. Triggering the button on the Mōvi Controller will close the loop between the pins -> Camera will fire!

Hope this will be of help!

Thanks, Mikkis -- I'm sure it will help a fellow Freeflyer! (And thanks for the user name change!)
    Cheers
