I use MCR with legacy counterweights and have to attach and detach them every time before and after using because I can't fold with attached counterweights. But maybe there are some hacks about it which I can use to fold in assembled state.
I remember just leaving the phone in the MCR with the weights and then placing it the bag. (Cheap camera bag with about the same depth as the rig). Not ideal, but worked. (Otherwise, you will NOT enjoy having the weights rubbing the MCR) Here is how the MCR with new weights set up for a iPhone 6s and Moment Wide looks folded. Much nicer.
