What's a good 1 Axis Follow Focus Kit for the Movi Pro? I was thinking of getting the Cine Gears 1 Axis Follow Focus kit.

P.S. Not looking to get a Bartec right now due to $$$. I've used on a Ronin x Alexa Mini rig before and it is sweet I know.

Pretty much all under the bartec price point seem to be buy-at-your-own-risk.most perform decent for money. But a lot of money for decent

I highly recommend the Chrosziel Magnum!

Panavision LA rents out their system and if they rent it you know it's a reliable system.

The best thing is that the system is upgradable. It's a great long term investement!

The most affordable kit is $4500 with a Chrosziel Motor if you can afford a Heden Motor it's $5500 i highly recommend it.

Heden Motors are Industry standard, but I've heard that the Chrosziel will work with 90% of all cinema lenses.

I think budget-unit was the goal for this post.

But yea chrosziel gets good reviews brandon, the heden motor is best. What does up gradable mean Ryan? Firmware updates?

Ultimately, get whatever the person you have pulling focus wants.

If it will get regular(constant) use by different focus-pullers, and u cannot afford a backup (or u dont know where u can find one on short notice), then Id be hesitant to
A.Buy a cheaper unit that is both harder to nail focus on for less-skilled AC's, and easier to have fail/break.

B.Buy a unit that has a potentially long turnaround for repairs.

as u can tell by the unit Ryan suggests and your experience with the bartec, $5000 dollars is about the price for that peace of mind.

Sebastian is definitely right when he says get whatever the person who is pulling focus wants first and foremost.

When I said Upgradable I meant Hardware upgradable. If you want to save money you can buy a 1 channel system and upgrade components like the Handcontroller, RX or (MDR), buy more Motors, add Cinetape. Lots of things that will allow the unit to grow with your needs.

Repairs are done at Radiant Images in LA. Even though they are a German Company.

I just did a 1 to 1 test with Preston and Arri Wireless units last week and Chrosziel's Magnum performed at the same speed with Heden Motors as Preston Motors (except that DM-1 has more torque), Arri's CForcemini were slow and loud though convient to setup (speed was comparable to my IKan PDMove system just a million times more reliable and a truly professional handset with camera functionality) the UMD4 and the CLM Arri Motors will just as fast and torquey as Preston but you are in a 30K system.

The Chrosziel has mechanical hard stops for quick pulling adjustments (without remapping lens point from start to end of the knob) the Magnum can do expanded focus programmed into user buttons and recalled at any time. No other system does that or has dual band frequency that can punch though walls like MHZ.

The things Preston, Arri and Cmotion have that Chrosziel doesn't is true lens mapping with pre-marked rings. Which may be coming in later firmware updates we will see.

Whatever you decide. Sebastian is correct with backup systems when it comes to lower prices systems. Sometimes even when you save money now you will have to spend more later as problems arise or have something go wrong on a job and if you can't get the shot the director wants what is the point of all of this in the first place?

Thanks again for all the info guys I really appreciate. As I am building my camera package, I am seeing that I have to be patient and just keep shooting and stacking bread for the tools I can rely on as I did with the Movi Pro and Scarlet W

$5500 isn't a lot really I just have to make a decision between a Follow Focus or start putting $$$$ towards a lens kit. Thanks again guys.

solid base. everything else can be rented for good rates, especially if you find an operator you like working with that already has one.
Do you already know your next big money project, and have the money to spend? Rent a follow focus and operator, buy the lens for job.

if u dont, i would get the high quality follow focus, a necessary tool that comes at good price-point. sometimes the lens u bought wont be the right one for DP choice, though i know a couple people are coming out/came out with some new cinema tele for good prices. otherwise, 15 grand and up.

either way patience helps. focus pulling on movi pro TBD

I'm not sure if this is still a fan fav but I picked up a used Hocus Axis 1 last year for 3k and it's only gotten compliments from my 1st ACs. One actually asked if she could rent it. It's a solid build. Last week the hand unit fell from 4ft (Yikes!) but it only received a scratch. Still worked the rest of the day.

good unit. Lucky it didn't break, I think they are based in U.K. I dunno if they have u.s. based tech support. If they do I think that's a viable option
