Hi, I'd like to get a radio controller for my M5 and I'm clueless about what it takes to set up and configure one. I'm only interested in pan & tilt so no camera control is needed. With that would something like this work? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1186323-REG/spektrum_spm1000_dxe_transmitter_system_with.html Thanks!
James take a look at the Futaba 14SG. Easy to setup. Model file can be downloaded and installed from Freefly or others here on the forum who have a copy. If you are unfamiliar with RC radios my personal opinion is that it would easier to setup than the Spektrum.
Thanks for the info Gary! I was hoping to keep the costs down as it is most likely something that I won't use that often and don't require any sort of camera control. With that what are your thoughts on the Futaba 6J? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1062198-REG/futaba_futk6000_6j_2_4g_radio_with.html Thanks again!
That would likely work since you need 6 channels to control the MoVI. I don't have any experience with it. Also if you go the Spektrum route you will want a receiver that can do 'PPM'. PPM allows for a single wire connection to the receiver. Not sure that the DXe comes with the right type of receiver. Worth an email to support@freeflysystems.com to verify that the TX/RX setup you are thinking about will work. Spektrum would need PPM RX or a 'Satellite' RX while the Futaba would need sBus.
Here's the model file for the Futaba 14SG but it's completely incompatible with the 6J, I suspect. My next strategy would be to search to see if Futaba has any kind of model file converter so that you can change the format of the file to one for the 6J. See http://forum.freeflysystems.com/index.php?threads/rather-good-guide®-to-installing-and-configuring-the-futaba-radio-on-the-alta-6-and-8.7821/ -- I know the guy who wrote the guide and most of the time he's right (and what he lacks in accuracy he makes up for with enthusiasm). Cheers Andy
I've contacted the Chief Movi Whisperer, Bryan at FF and asked him if he can post the file -- I don't have it, sorry.
