I’m trying to find an elegant off-the-shelf solution to mount my M5 underslung to a travel jib. I liked this Benro jib <http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1203073-REG/benro_a15j27_moveup15_travel_jib.html>, however, the 75mm ball head mount won't attach to a ninja star. I called Benro and they don't know what a gimbal is nor do they manufacture a long flat plate. thanks in advance.
B&H suggested this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1008041-REG/benro_bl75_75hb_75mm_half_ball.html, however, I'm not comfortable mounting the ninja star and my entire rig to a single screw.
Hi Steve, How about a small cheese plate laid on top of the jib\ball mount, and then a 3/8" bolt down into your Ninja star below? http://www.filmtools.com/filmtools-teenie-weenie-cheese-plate-3-8-16-tapped.html I've rigged my M15 with fully loaded Arri Mini onto a single 3/8-16 bolt, no worries. Whole Lambda heads are held underslung on a single bolt. Here it is rigged to a Mitchell Mount:
Hi Graham, Thanks for the help and sharing your photo of that sweet rig! I came across this video from abelcine that I think may be a possible solution. . Screen Shot 2016-06-16 At 3.21.17 PM by steve g posted Jun 16, 2016 at 3:24 PM
Hi Steve, you could do that as well -- use a 75mm head upside down. I assume the Ball Mount on the Benro jib can be oriented up or down? But if you're willing to do that, why not just go with B&H's original suggestion, of getting a 75mm to flat base adapter? It would be lighter, for sure, and less expensive, less to pack, etc. The only other thing to consider is the amount of space you need for clearance of the back of the Pan Arm on the Movi. If you boom up too far on the jib, the pan arm would hit the bottom of the jib. Adding a Ball Head into the mix will keep the camera lower (or higher, if top-mounted) than if you had it mounted flush to the ball.
