After two monts project with our crew thegang.bg, we had a lots of time to test different things on the movi. And we found one very big problem and that is the speed limit. Trying to make a side shot of a driving car with cinestar 8 we found out that after 12m/s - 43km/h the movi freakout. We thought that is priblem with the cables or some vibrations. But after the project we went to the park and we put 5kg weight on the gimbal trying to do the same test. https://instagram.com/p/BENiC4MnCOF/ Flying in straight line and movi is pointing sideways. After 12m/s movi pan is turning of and after a while it comes back. We change the movi 15 firmware akira to older one. And again the same problem. After that we changed the movi 15 with movi 10 and again the same problem. We think that the motors cand handle that weight and speed combination. Does anybody else experience the same thing? And is there any solution for this? We are always in some speed car chases and we have to fly with the drone flying limits 17m/s. If the movis cant handle this speed we will look for some other gimbals that can. Demo of what we are doing is on our website. Thanks TG3K
Yeah this is a well known problem. There are various threads on here about it. With heavier payloads the pan motor can't hold a side on shot at high speed.
We are experiencing the same issues, at exactly the same speed. Would anyone like to comment on this thread about the issue, instead of searching through endless forums?
20kts with the camera body sideways seems to be the common spot. In some ways a simple matter of physics. Much more aerodynamic drag to the side of a camera/lens/accy than head on. Fresh batteries may help since they have more amps of energy to expend when the pan motor calls for power. Wouldn't be unreasonable to change battery prior to every shot. But at some point speed will overpower the system.
Had a fresh battery in there, but it bugged out at around 40km/h. Not exactly fast tracking .... This issue massivley restricts the Movi from utilising it in tracking vehicle shots from that specific angle whilst on a drone.
Unfortunately thats the movi limits. We are looking for other gimbals so we can manage the speed. If you are shooting landscape movi is your solution. But if you are in action movies. Movi is not handling the job. We are action camera crew. Mostly car chase, and we are looking for other options on the market. We will try new ronin. I didnt like DJI at all. But latly poor costumer suport on freefly is pushing me to go over thare and we will switch everythinh to DJI.
This will happen with all of us, unfortunately, If Freefly not solve this great problem that have all their MOVI.
This issue was brought up on forums and to FF support over a year. A pan motor upgrade would fix the issue but no word yet so like other we are looking into other solutions. U1, Aerigon or Ronin MX unfortunately - bummer since we have a bunch of M15s - amazing units but fail at high speeds & 90 degrees to flight path.
