I want to figure out a way to cut some weight on my M15 using the Alexa Mini. I heard that you can power the camera with Lipo batteries. I searched the forum and googled around but didn't find much.....

Do any of you guys have any info you could share on how to pull this off or anything to be aware of? I'm curious as to how much run time I could pull? I'd be using it for on ALTA as well as just regular land based gimbal work.

    Thanks

I bought an Arri Mini power plug (cant remember the exact details sorry) and plug this into a 4s 2600mah lipo. It lasts a flight so battery management is an issue but it certainly lightens the load.

I've been using 6s 5200mAh and get a good 30 mins camera operation.

Bought one of these, chopped it right back and put a flexible cable on.

I need to work out a better way of fixing the battery to the gimbal, currently just using cable ties so a bit of a faff to change.

Michael, I've just order a couple of variations of the Media Blackout cables for Alexa Mini - A Dtap one and a XT60 one.

I use their cables exclusively on our MoVis with great results - both for power and Video signal... As for run time, I can't comment until I've done some tests.

We just use the Hawkwoods PC-16 cable which I put a deans connector on. With a 4s 3300mah batt we get about 25-30 mins run time on the mini

I bought the original KC-50 cable, shortened it, took off the rubber coating, and added an XT60 plug. Works like a charm.
From a 4S 4200mah battery it can run the camera and 1 LCS for 25-30 min.
(If you'd like I can take a photo of it and show the connection diagram)

Very cool. What is your total TOW with this setup? What size flight packs?

    TOW?
Max weight was 15.5 Kg, flight time 11 min with 2x 10.000 TATTU.
But the copter didn't really like the weight, it was a bit wobly, but flew well.

How is that possible that you reach more than 15kg??

    4,6 = ALTA
    2,2 = M15
    0,150 = Connex
    0,5 = Power (just estimation)
    2,8 = 2x6s10000

    2,3 = Alexa
    0,4 = SDI / HDMI (just estimation)
0,65 = lens (if it is what it looks, ZEISS 2,1)
    0,7 = Filter holder
    14,3 = Total

    Where I'm wrong??

    Thanks

I have a SDI-HDMI converter also, and that is 0.4 kg.
But I don't know exactly the weight of everything. Here a a picture of my last setup. It was 15.2 Kg:

Don't waste your time with Media Blackout. They have been jacking me around for months. Their last response said they have no clue when they might deliver. Hell of a way to treat customers.

I had a similar issue with Media Black Out, the delivery took months.

Wooden Camera has one cable, it's not as flexible as Media BlackOut's cable but it works.

    Hi All,
Looking at this a year later. I have an Alexa Mini and just bought an M15. I'm looking for the lightest and simplest way to run it as it's pretty heavy right now. I have 1 or 2 d-tap accessories to run, and when not on the M15 I use Goldmount (so side mounting the battery with the BAP-2 or the Freefly one above isn't great. I'm thinking about going the Lipo route. What is the longest lasting Lipo that still fits in the M15 battery slot? And am I able to power both the Alexa Mini and a Redrock Follow focus off the same battery with a D-tap splitter?
    thanks!

How low do you drain your batteries?

I flew about 10min with 13 kg with 2x 10.000 TATTU, and landed as it said 21,6v in the display. When I measured the batteries right after landing, they showed 14% and after about 20-30 min they showed 30-40%
