Mine moved about 30 degrees after however long it takes for the remote to buzz. 15 min? It takes a while

Trevor actually I think mine is about the same, probably 10 degrees in 5 mins, not done longer than that, but the same rate as yours. Is that within tolerance or is there something that can be done?

If you leave the MoVI stationary in a stand with it not getting any physical input it will drift. My understanding is that this is normal for the type of sensors used.

Hi Gary, can I ask is the stationary in the stand or actual in use relevant to the amount of drift?

    Answered in your other post.

Steve in another post with a similar question I answered that from what I understand the sensors that are used do drift. I don't know the details but if you set the MoVI in the stand pan will drift over time. This doesn't occur if the the MoVI is moving. And I seem to remember that even higher end sensors like these used in much more expensive applications (airplanes, missiles and the like) will also drift. Probably the degree of drift is a factor of the price paid but all of them need other cross checks to stay accurate.

Bad example but in the long ago days of inertial nav systems on board airline and corporate planes they did cross checks either with celestial shots or loran to reset/recalibrate/check and update the system.

Then why doesn't the tilt also drift? or I guess its because tilt isn't locked by the gps or something.. Anyways, when I was moving it the drift was still happening... So I am not sure if saying when it is moving the drift doesn't happen because clearly it does from my tests.

Also I need to figure this drifting out because I am planning some future shoots. So I hate to bring the R name up because I personally highly dislike them just like any MoVI owner would.. But does the Ronin drift too? Anyone with a DJI Ronin want to chime in?

I contacted freefly and they said there is no way to fix the drift issue.. Now my question is, do all gimbals suffer from drifting over time? or is this a freefly only issue?

Trevor my opinion would be that they all drift. The sensors have drift, better sensor less, cheap sensor maybe more.

Was experiencing unwanted steady, visible pan to the right in Remote mode only. No problem in Majestic. Speed of pan was influenced by throttle. Solved by going into DX7s menu and adjusting aileron value. Dialed in values at full throttle until there was no perceptible movement, then selected that value, which for me was 26L. Am now able to use trim button for fine adjust if I find any drift, but issue has not recurred.

Not a lock-off solution for time lapse or motion control, but returned to normal :)

    Hey Gents,

The new firmware fixes the pan-drift when the MoVI is on a stand and you're using the remote. Off hand, I forget the setting in the GUI but its under "expert" and you select "stand". Sorry I don't remember the exact mode but if you read the literature associated with the new firmware (as of 6/20/15), it will tell you how to change the mode so the MōVI doesn't drift while on the stand using the remote.

Also, for locked off shots, you can always adjust pan strength to 0 if you're on the old fw.

I've been using the M15 on a Netflix show for Baz Luhrmann called The Get Down and we have been experiencing major Drift issues. Nothing Noticeable in Majestic mode while carrying it. But as soon as we put that gimbal on a Ninja star with Toad adapter and try to use it as a remote head it drifts big time. Very frustrating when doing composed architectural shots and just frustrating in general. I have tried reaching out to freely and they told me i should ask the people at Abelcine in NY (because thats who i bought it from) for help. I've essentially given up with customer service from Freefly. God forbid there was an immediate serious issue on a big movie set that needed instant professional feedback. there is a callback service and an email option to get any help. If my Steadicam acts up i can call Pro and troubleshoot with the people who make it. Same with XCS, SmallHD, Teradek, Preston, Tiffen.

  17. Andy,
We apologize for any confusion and frustration you may be having with regards to your MoVI. We see in our support system that your last response to us was over a month ago on July 15th, and that we had called you back on that same day after you had sent the video and the images we requested. Please understand our dealers work hard to maintain strong relationships with their customers and as such, should be contacted as a first line of support. With that being said, I would be happy to reopen the support ticket that was created on July 15th. Please email me at support@freeflysystems.com Best regards, Chris Harrison Freefly/MoVI Senior Technical Support Specialist

You're sorry for any confusion? What confusion might you be speaking of Chris? When I finally did get ahold of a customer service representative while I was experiencing issues you straight up said that the issue is probably user error and I probably didn't have it balanced properly. As an A/Steadicam operator on pretty sizable shows (Breaking Bad,30Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and now I'm using your product on a big show with a director that wants to push the envelope on what a moving camera does and the support is not strong. I would think you'd want to help me do amazing things with your product

As a Steadicam operator I think balance is one thing I have a handle on.

    Hey Andy,

I'm not sure why no one has mentioned changing one of your settings to "stand" mode. Assuming you're using the most current firmware (v4.01 as of 8/27/15), you can tell the MoVI you intend to use it on its stand/tripod/Jib so the pan doesn't drift. To do this go on the app, go into the "expert" setting on the app then select "Heading Assist". Then use the "fine" option to move between "GPS" "Compass" and "Stand". Select "stand". When on the stand/tripod, etc and using a remote in dual operator mode, select "stand". Then go to "charts" and select (I believes it's) "attitude" to see if pan ("yaw") is moving. If it is, try using the remote to pan a couple times and it should get the drift out.

Don't forget to turn off the "stand" setting when going back into majestic mode.

Another (not so good) solution if you just need a locked off shot and don't have the current firmware is to tune the pan strength to 0. Obviously, this isn't ideal but it's better than a slow pan.
