I'm shooting a Red Epic on a M15 and I'm looking at buying an Easyrig system. From what I've read I want the Easyrig 3, but the arm length and model no's (500N, 800N, etc..) and regular or extended arm are a bit confusing. I was looking at adding the Serene on the end and wondered if I want an extended arm or not. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike
Mike, you want the 400N (17-22lbs) with the 9" extended arm. This is what I've used I the past with a fully built Epic. It does push the limit of the arm, but the 500N (22-30lbs) is a bit too much. Have you considered a Klassen Slingshot? I own one, and love it. Its a much more comfortable, versatile, and overall better solution than the EasyRig. One key reason is you're not limited by weight ranges. It'll successfully support everything from a light DSLR build, to a heavy Alexa M configuration, and will cost you about the same price as everything you're looking to purchase currently. Hope it helps.
Thanks for the reply Eric. I've heard a lot of good things about the Easyrig/Serene setup, so that was the direction I was headed in. I wasn't aware of the Slingshot. It seems pretty interesting and I might ask you some questions. Still trying to figure out what's best for me. Thanks again!
Thanks Ben. What length extended arm, and what's the 130? Sorry for the silly questions, and thanks again for the advice. Mike
Eric, How do you shoot in hallways and doorways with that Klassen rig? Just shot in an office building and there is no way I could have used that with those rigger things so high. And I used someone else's easy rig once and found it even harder to hide your footsteps since the cable tugged on the Movi harder then what I would have produced with just my own footsteps. Did they not have easy rig step properly? I did like how it took the weight off though?
They probably had an arm rated for a higher weight than than your build. I thought the same thing about the Slingshot when I first saw it. But after using it for several months, I realize there are many different ways to configure the vertical and horizontal arms, so working in confined spaces is not a problem. I've done running shots thru low trees, indoors, hallways, doorways, etc. Never had an issue. For example, you can put both horizontal arms together and use it in a very similar configuration as an Easyrig if you're in a tight space. Hope this helps.
Eric thanks for replying. Yes it does help actually. So you could fit that slingshot in a normal 6' whatever doorway without bending over? How much is the slingshot bye the way?
I'm 6' tall and fit thru all doors ;-) Yes, configuring it to walk thru a doorway is not a big deal. Price is not cheap. But when you consider the benefits, it's a no brainier. Nothing against Easyrig. I own one and use it all the time for heavy Alexa builds when operating handheld. That's the right tool for that job. Not the right tool for MoVI.
