Hi, i'm looking for the best (weight/life) lipo to power the RED DRAGON, flying cinestar 8 3515Tmotors 15"props (6S 8000mah x 2) i found several options like : http://gremsy.com/en/products/detail/page/30-gpower-4s-battery may be a bit heavy? or https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__21347__ZIPPY_Compact_2200mAh_4S_25C_Lipo_Pack.html if you have an advice.... thanks
I used to always use hyperion back in the trex 450 flying days. I ran them with my red and they all puffed within 10-15 flights. Never charged more than 1c, never over discharged etc...I must have gotten a bad batch because they use to make quality batteries.
Alex, I honestly can't say what the max record time is because we swap at the 10 minute mark every time, On the swap generally there is about 14.4 to 14.8 in the battery still (I would hazard 15 minutes tops). Tristan, I have some that are puffed to all get out, two years old and still run solid. Then again I have some like yours that I am saving to build a house out of....
Gremsy 4S batteries are one of the best for powering accessories and cameras since they offer the best watt/gr ratio. I also use Freefly 2650 mAh lipo batteries for Red and it gives around safe 20 minute record time.
I use the Zippy Compact batteries that you linked to. They work perfect in our Movi M10/MR and last about 20-25 minutes powering the epic/movi/paralinx. As a bonus, they fit in the normal battery slot on the movi, so it's a very clean setup. I have 20 of them and can roll half a day easily with that. With a good charger I can charge 2 of them in about 35 minutes, so turnaround times are quick too.
interesting, you mean 20min recording with these zippy compact 2200mah https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__21347__ZIPPY_Compact_2200mAh_4S_25C_Lipo_Pack.html ? we won't fly more than 8-10 min max in any case (plus 1 or 2 minutes setting up the camera before take off and landing) so my setup attached to copter will be: Movi M10/MR (1,8kg) 1 zippy 3S 2500 (i already have) to power the video transmitter (200g) 1 freefly 4S 2600 for the M10/MR (200g) 1 zippy/hyperion/freefly... 2200/2600 mah 4S for powering the camera (250g) RED dragon+35mm (3 Kg) Around 5.5 kg attached to the bird...
Yes, those are the ones. Make sure to get the 25C if you want to use it in the Movi battery compartment as the 35C version is just slightly too big. The setup you listed out will work, but it's a lot of wasted weight. As mentioned, I run everything off the single zippy compact 2200mah 4S. You could easily do the same and save the weight of the zippy 3s and freefly 4s. I'm guessing your video transmitter will accept the higher voltage from a 4s, and if not you can always get a bec to drop it down. Just an idea... Saving weight is important not only to flight time but also overall copter performance.
Thanks for your tips, I'll try the one battery option, my only concern is the LEMO to LIPO cable, should i make it runs along the "roll" booms... to the LIPO? any problem to balance the camera with it? (i don't have the camera right now to test). i've only used the RED on the ground in M10 config and RED V-Lock from now. i've attached some (bad pics sorry) of my actual setup (NIKON D800 with a camranger at the moment) and the LEMO to LIPO cable i have. First flight with the RED dragon so...a bit nervous
You mean (by full cage) the double side carbon battery cage (like the M15)? No we have the standard single carbon M10 battery cage. I think i will get rid of the "fat black tube" around our LEMO cable and make it thiner and smoother. then make an adapter (like my pic attached) and feed the whole thing with the https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__21347__ZIPPY_Compact_2200mAh_4S_25C_Lipo_Pack.html that Philip recommended. then go to the company who is renting the RED dragon to see if it's recording for about 20min... (and add another BEC to feed our video transmiter in 5V, i hope it's not pumping more juice than the paralinx) ?
Yes for sure, if we make the job well and the money comes in then...UPGRADE! but for now it's not a problem of "confort" the M10/MR should do the job, it is more a "powering/light weight problem".
But i'll go with this for sure on this job http://store.freeflysystems.com/col...y/products/movi-m10-quick-release-pan-knuckle
OK I didn't know we could upgrade the full cage only!! so yes no need for full M15 upgrade i'll go for it http://www.1001copters.com/fr/accessoires-movi/270-cage-complete-movi-m10.html
