Hey folks. Have a shoot at the weekend. Handheld rig. I've been pushing and pushing the DOP and director to use an Epic or Alexa M and both are very keen but production are saying no. So it looks like it's going to be a BlackMagic. Wondering if anyone has experience with putting the BM on the rig. It will be easy enough to balance I'm sure. My worry is putting a preston FF on.. The BM has NO mount options and is really a massive pain in the ass. Any help or thoughts would be welcome! Thanks, Sam
So you mean the Bm Pocket? Or the Cinema 2.5 k? For the 2.5k i could send you some pics... The Preston could be mounted on the top rail... Best Wolf
Yeah Wolf the 2.5K annoyingly. My main worry is mount the preston right now. Some pics would be much appreciated! Thanks, Sam
Sorry, i just found these two…. I always hang the BMCC and the Epic. The Arri MCU-3 sits on an old camera platform taken from my Cinestar 3-axis remote head. For BMCC power i took some 4S lipo´s and made me an adapter, worked out quite well. This was my very first quick and dirty setup, i now have a Heden Carat ff and Paralinx Arrow+ downlink and a 5,6" monitor on the rig.. Shoot me a private message if you have further questions... Best , Wolf
Because i find it easier to balance and like to mount the rods and ff/motor at the bottom of the cam. I feel it gives more headroom for tilt, also... Best, Wolf That's the new setup, more clean and simple battery management.
Hi Wolf, I really like that new pic of your BMCC set-up! What did you use to mount the rods at the bottom? Thanks, Veve
Hi Wolf, nice setup! I'm about to receive my Blackmagic 4K and would like to set it up on the M10. I was wondering, how do you feed video to the monitor? I was planning to use my super thin & flexible HDMI cable from the camera to my monitor but just noticed that the Blackmagic doesn't even have HDMI out. My monitor also has SDI in but aren't those cables way to thick and rigid to use on the M10? I also happen to have an Arrow+ system but again that's only HDMI. I'd really appreciate if you could tell me your solution to this problem. Thanks!
Hi Phillip, i use a very thin sdi-cable (Belden), and an Atomos S2H Miniconverter. The Converter is powered by a Sony N-FP 970 battery, and attached to the monitor. I soldered a cable to the monitor-battery plate and feed the Paralinx usb-adapter with it. So i have only one battery to power the Atomos, monitor and Paralinx tx. For the Epic i use the thin hdmi-cable and skip the converter. Unfortunately my BM camera was stolen last week, when somebody broke into our facility. I think i go for an Epic now, once insurance has paid…. Best, Wolf
Hi Wolf, Really sorry to hear about the theft. That's terrible. I hope the insurance claim will go through quickly! I was trying to google for the thin belden cable but couldn't find anything. Would you mind pointing me in the right direction? Do you perhaps have a link to a website that sells this cable in the US? Would really appreciate the help! Thanks, Philipp
This is another option to try as well ... http://brushlessgimbals.com/p/8767760/superthin-hd-sdi-cable-.html
Hi Chris, yes, that´s very similar…. That´s the Belden: http://www.belden.com/techdatas/metric/83264.pdf Here the US locations: http://www.belden.com/aboutbelden/company/belden-offices.cfm Best, Wolf
I was looking for a similar cable solution and Hot Rod Cameras has a thin SDI cable as well. http://www.hotrodcameras.com/convergent-design-hd-sdi-coax-cable-18.html
Thanks guys. I ordered the cable that Chris posted since those guys are right around the corner from my house.
Hey Wolf, I have another question for you. My 4k production camera finally arrived and I'm trying to figure out how to power the camera and follow focus within the cage. There doesn't really seem to be a good space to mount a vlock plate anywhere since the SSD door is on one side and the sables on the other. If I understand correctly you are powering the camera with the lipos that come with the Movi? Is that correct? If so are you actually using the same lipo that powers the movi or did you attach a second lipo somewhere? And how long does one of those guys keep the camer running? I'd really appreciate any insights you could give me on powering the blackmagic and perhaps one accessory such as a follow focus whither the cage. Thanks!
I also would like to know the same question as Philipp above. How are people powering the BMCC 4K while its on the movi. And if you are using Lipos how much running time do you get out of them. Thanks, Andrew
Hallo I use a M10 with a black Magic Production Camera 4K. So I tuck the original Battery away and take a V-Mount and a power distributer on his place the problem I have got now if the battery is not fresh and the Voltage goes under 14.5V the M10 will switch off.
