I was booked for 2 days and we went for 5. No exaggeration: while the MoVI was on set, they didn't take the camera off except to put it on a crane, and that was probably for 5 percent of the time. That's the DoP Gerald Stahlmann, and I was operating sticks. He did really well understanding how to enter and exit the window gracefully, as well as making best use of the majestic tuning for pan. Production has asked me how to credit the roles. I had a MoVI assistant, what title does everyone think is appropriate for the various roles?
Thanks Jason, sounds like a good idea. I jumped on to IMDb and it occurred to me to check The Wolf of Wall Street! Omar 'Freefly' Alhegelan ... close ranger aerial photography: second unit (as Freefly) Hugh Bell ... moVI operator: second unit Tabb Firchau ... moVI operator: second unit (as Tabb Fichau) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0993846/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm Very cool.
When on set with the MoVI, you wear a lot of hats. You could be operating in Majestic mode for one shot and then on the sticks for a more complicated shot and rm again just an assistant when the DP wants to do them shot. Regardless of what you are doing, you are the "expert" when the MoVI is up and running, you are the MoVI Operator. Credits should reflect your position on the crew - MoVI Operator.
