And after playing around with it in my studio carrying around handheld annoying my dog, I put the legs on and may try and fly it in a little while. It weighs in at 6.74 pounds with the GH3 onboard.
And here is my maybe-not-completely-lame unboxing video/review and attempt to get it up and running in 15 minutes like Tabb said I could.
So guys, is it time to throw away all the alexmos gear? Are you getting results that are light years ahead? Is it a lot lighter than a 3 axis gb-85 or 8017 gimbal?
I have a very limited dataset, but two important points to remember are: 1) GB85 or GB100-based gimbals can swing a heck of a lot more payload than the M5 (which is spec’d at 5 pounds max) 2) The M5 is considerably more expensive than most Alexmos-based gimbals I’m probably going to sell my Alexmos gimbal, though, as I have no prospects for requiring anything bigger than one of my 5D Mark III bodies for now.
As far as accuracy and drift go do you get better stabilization from the m5 than the alexmos is capable of?
Steve, don't sell the alexmos gimbal yet. With all th recnt roll drift complaints from the m10, i'm curious to see how the m5 performs compared to the alxmos in the air while doing rotational moves and side slides at speed.
What's your procedure? I have don't countless 6 point calibrations, single point calibrations while attached to gimbal I raised gyro trust to 200. What's the trick?
Kanun order numbers, as announced by Freefly in a post several months ago, are randomly generated. Also announced was that all of the M5 backorders would ship in the next 4-6 weeks.
This video is meaningless if: 1) the IMU is not mounted perfectly square on the box 2) the IMU is not mounted perfectly square on the gimbal
I used that video to calibrate my IMU and I used a perfectly square plastic box. Still getting roll drift. It is mounted perfectly square on the gimbal with everything measured. Are there any other settings I could be missing?
just a gentle nudge. Since this thread is about the M5, perhaps take the Alexmos discussion to another new thread?
