I think the thumb controller Wolf has built is brilliant, I would buy one.

    Hi Eric

This thumbstick is intended to be hardwired/plugged in the Alexmos controller and not compatible with the MōVi.
My thumbstick will be ready for sale in the middle of april.

    Best,

    Wolf

I'd buy one of these too.
Majestic mode is okay, but it seems like a drunk person most of the time.

Having the ability to control framing more precisely as a single op would be great.

Also, just the ability to correct the roll without having to use the dx7 or a tablet would be useful.

I built the module of the prototype which operates Movi with a joy stick.
(Although size seems to be large, it can make smaller)
Pan/tilt/roll/Pan rate/Tilt rate/mode switch is attached to this module.
It connects with a sbus terminal.
(A power supply is supplied from Movi)
A PWM signal is generated from arduino.
It inputs into Futaba sbus encoder SBE-1.

It has changed into the SBUS signal.

Practically every other gimbal manufacturer has a joystick/thumb 'throttle' of some sort.

Most of them are either built-in to the gimbal or around $100, and are even on similar size gimbals under $1K.

I would really hope Movi is working on their own cost effective version or they are sure to lose many customers!

Chris I am sure you meant well as everyone I have met at Freefly has been extremely nice, but don't assume that your customers can't multitask! That is poor excuse for not making a product that your customers want. Think bigger Chris. The thumb joystick isn't a crutch to pull off shots that someone couldn't get with majestic mode, its another tool to aid in a tougher shot or like others have mentioned clients don't want to pay for extra crew members so sometimes its a one man band doing the entire shot.
The Movi has given operators a lot of freedom and other options of movement. I have been operating Jibs for 20+ years and can pull off pan, tilt, zoom, focus and dutch all at the same time and so can the majority of Jib Ops I know. A thumb joystick adds another option to move and cover a subject well. Yes maybe not everyone can or will use it properly but I bet the majority of people on here could use it well.
Also there seem to be a lot of people asking for the thumb joystick on the Movi. Not just on here but at the Movi workshop, NAB and in general conversations. Have been around the Defy crew and many people have said how this would really be useful on the Movi. Not really sure why it seems you are against the joystick? Hell Freefly stands to make even more money off of it.

That's great that Wolf is going to make a 'thumbstick' but I still for the life of me can't believe that Movi aren't doing this themselves.

When most other manufacturers are including them either on the gimbal or as a cheap option this just seems like quite an oversight. This is especially true when it seems like a no brainer in terms of cost and practical implications, such as a single operator who wants to have precision over their shots.

Awesome. We will take one. (If Freefly won't make the changes that we are requesting, I guess there will be a flourishing 3rd party market).

Has anyone been able to create a thumb knob that you could connect to the "trainer" port on the spektrum radio.

    Hi all,

sorry for the long silence, but due to a lot of shooting the project was frozen for a couple of weeks. I am currently looking for an appropriate housing and when i find something neat, i will built and test the first real prototype. Then i will order a first batch of pcb´s and produce 10 units, i am quite confident to have them ready beginning of september.

So it would be helpful for planning if everybody real interested send me a message and i will make a list for the first 10 units (first comes first).
I will provide pricing and shipping info then.

    Thanks for your patience,

    Wolf

    Hi,

    a small update:

The pcb's are being manufactured right now and will arrive in app. 10 days.

First other parts started to arrive today, so it really begins.

There are still a few places left in the slot of 10.. ;-)

    Best,

    Wolf
