Anyone figured this out yet? Most shoots I'm on don't have a table to put the MoVI stand on, and I'd like to avoid leaving the stand and the MoVI on the floor. I'd love to hang the MoVI at should level, then grab it and shoot, much like a Steadicam does.
I forget the diameter of a c-stand arm for holding flags but you could consider popping the end caps off the top handle and sliding it on to an arm.
C-stand is 5/8" diameter baby pin. Do you happen to know the ID of the top handle? I'd love to know if it's going to fit before I try popping off the end caps and scratching up that beautiful carbon fiber.
Duh...Cartellini on a C-stand = Shoulder height MoVI stand. Can't believe it took me so long to figure that one out. Although, it would be even better if the Freefly C-Stand stand was just the top fork of the current stand that could plop right onto a baby pin. Would be two less things to tighten down.
oh wow, look at that. Yeah, mine doesn't have any of those little hex screws. The vertical section of my stand is totally fixed. Don't think I can take anything apart without damaging it. Even if I did, there's nothing on the stand that is 5/8" so wouldn't sit on C-Stand anyway.
I guess freefly keep improving their designs. I'm sure in 3 months the m10 movi will be very different from ours. You might have an option later to buy separate parts
Just in case this is helpful for anyone else, I finally popped an endcap off. The ID is .92 inches, at least on the handle tube. I imagine it's the same for the other tubes as well.
This is my favourite solution to date, part off-the-shelf, part custom. I wanted something that was similar to the FF stand but safer, bigger, and mounts directly to a c-stand. My solution is buying the $25 "Minoura Bike Hanger 4" and attaching part of it to a custom piece of aluminum ($130). 5/8" female in bottom with a 3/8" locking knob, 2 x custom spaced 1/4-20 holes to line up with the Minoura, and a 3/8" hole in the top to attach a cheese plate or what have you. The Minoura is adjustable to get fine level, just throw a bullet level across the two arms, or small spirit level. I have 3 of the aluminum pieces for sale for $130 each. Anodized for $150. The bike rack is here: http://www.amazon.com/Minoura-Wall-Mount-Bike-Hanger/dp/B0025UKAVW
great idea, lol i just go the bike hooks. didn't even need to make anything, just stove it on top of the c-stand and it works!
Hi Eric. Would like to purchase an anodized version of your c-stand block. Please contact at bkanegson@gmail.com.
If Eric is out of those blocks and not making anymore, I have access to a machine shop and can have the blocks made up...but only if Eric isn't selling them anymore.
Sure, if you want to. I am out now, but it's in the computer already, so if there are a couple orders I can have them made up. The cost is around $100 plus anodizing to make each one, so I'm really not making anything on it. The more made, the cheaper...
I have access to the raw material and machine shop, but not here to tread on your idea..so I'm not going to do anything with it. Great idea though! I did something similar with a Glidecam set up.
