I forgot to ask, Steve -- but how is the connection between the metal T-Adapter and the CF boom -- is there some metal pipe in the T-Adapter that slips into the CF boom? Andy.
I guess technically this is a "tuning" rig for the Alexmos controller, not really a balancing rig, per se.
Thinking of the tuning of the MōVI everything is keyed off of the center of the Pan motor. With the arms, it is hanging in the stand, with the MR setup hanging the copter. Just thinking you will get dry different results with your setup. And can attest that the gain settings on the MōVI are different depending on handheld and MR.
yup, it turns out the outside dimension of a 1/2" galvanized pipe fits nicely inside of a 25mm CF boom
Interesting...I may have the center hub upside down, then. Is there a reference photo or diagram for how a 3-axis gimbal goes together?
Oh ha! I do have it wrong. I basically had the 2-axis gimbal hanging off the 3-axis center plate. Thanks, gents! #blushing
Dave it's not so much a CG issue when you are setting the gains, at least not with the MōVI. I am assuming the process is somewhat similar with Alexmos. On the MōVI, once everything is balanced the the center of the pan motor is the hang point. Then you set each of the gains. Is the Alexmos stuff the same type of tuning?
It looks great.... my concern is the extra weight for that BG panning motor......relative to a servo motor with pulley/belt system...... or am I overlooking a BG motor advantage here..?
The pan cage has a 8017 motor in it. I’m either going to be flying a GH3 or a 5DM3. I think it’ll have plenty of oomph. Don’t want to do a belt reduction.
Are you concerned that the belt will introduce Bad Things, Steve? Like slop? If the tension is right, I don't think it will -- Bill Collydas is using belt reduction on a BL motor, I believe. Andy.
As you know, one never gets something for nothing. I will continue down my route of direct drive until I know otherwise. I know others are using belts in their builds, but I’ve yet to see visual evidence that this works. Not sure why, but there is a dearth of videos from these systems. I have seen lots of direct drive videos, and I’m satisfied with my own results, too.
Hi Steve, I'm building a coax with MK electronics as well. Have you had to do any tuning to the default config? I'm thinking of running 15" and 16" props, are you using two different sizes as well? Any more issues with your BL 3.0? Thank you!
So far I’m mostly running defaults (other than disabling Carefree, and assigning channels). The BL 3.0 board is awesome. Right now I’m using cheap 15” CF props, as I don’t want to risk the fancy 15” Xoars and Tigers that I have to a less-than graceful landing. At the moment I’m planning to run the same props top and bottom, but that could change. Not fully operational yet, so taking it one step at a time.
Steve: I know you got the BL 3.0's with heat sinks...what's less than obvious is whether that's what QC is selling....did you (or could you) post an image showing the heat sinks? Andy.
