I think it's made to replace the top handle... you can probably make a quick release from this

Sounds like it could open up a ton of options. It says in the description that it replaces the top handle. Do you think they mean the top handle and crossbar as well? I could see that making more sense.

ideally i could use this to mount a quick release to the movie gimbal and then a plate to the top handle so that i can just snap it on in the field.

  6. James,
Yes it does. If you look at the addition thumbnail images in the Freefly store you will see how it is mounted.

    Chris,

I would just like to know the exact hole and treading for the whole piece. Really i would like to know if i can still screw the top mount into this ninja if needed. if that is the case i might order two of these guys and make sandwich a quick release plate in the middle.

    Thanks,

    Jacob

  10. If you are talking about re-attaching the top cross bar after attaching the Ninja Star to the MoVI, then yes.
Remember it will be offset by several degrees because the holes you use to reattach the cross bar are not perpendicular to the rig as they were before you attached the Ninja Star.

Just got it in the mail yesterday and it great. But it seems like i might need to order two to do a quick release system that i was hoping for. Any chance freely will come out with something that i can screw the crossbar into that will give me a 1/4-20 hole? Or should i plan on getting a second ninja to get the job done?

Here's another use for it (also in this rig are the new Epic/Scarlet v-mount plate and rod adapter):

Are you able to pan? Looks like the pan bar hits?

That´s why I built an extension for my crane arm. But the MoVI is a great cranehead I love it!

    cool, remote head.

I think a good application in this regard is for car work. To take out the wobbles and imperfections of road. someone should make a mount for rigging onto a car exterior.

Don't forget the g-forces which occur while driving!
A ten to twelve pound heavy block of metal and glass will be harmounted via four tiny little screws to a car.
If you drive fast, you will have to brake hard.
I can't imagine this will work very long...

It's the angle of the pic. It just clears - we're going to get a custom cheeseplate made for the jib to move it forward some more as it could be better.

Has anyone figured out a way to mount the ninja star without removing the crossbar? I have an application that I'd like to keep pan control manual while the MoVI is attached to a support system.

  20. James,
Yes, you can physically mount the 'Ninja Star' between the pan motor and the top cross bar. Just be aware that it will be off by a certain degree because the holes to accomplish this are offset by a certain amount, therefore the top crossbar will not be perpendicular to the rig when in 'majestic' mode or single user.
