On set now. Having a weird issue where the Movi will kick back into majestic mode momentarily (or it at least seems that way) even though my DX7 is switched to remote. In the footage it just looks like the operator bumps the motors but he's not. Any thoughts? Could this be a DX7 range issue? Motor issue?
Not sure if it's normal or not, but there's a little play in the remote/majestic switch. Could it have been damaged and is now shorting?
Hi Jonathan, Sounds like a range issue. You can simulate a range issue by just turning the transmitter off while moving around with the MoVI and comparing the symptoms you had prior.(i.e. kick back into majestic mode momentarily) Do you remember approximately what the farthest distance the remote operator was from the MoVI operator at any given time? There is a way to test if the transmitter has an internal issue that affects its range ability. Let me know if you get the same symptoms when turning the TX (Transmitter) off manually and we'll go from there. Chris
Also, I confirmed with others that it does default into Majestic mode if there are any issue with the two communicating. Chris
Max range for our shot is 60ft. I would've thought there was more range than that, but perhaps I'm getting line of site interference?
When the rig bumps, it's definitely acting as if it's kicking back into majestic mode momentarily, feels the same as if I switch from remote to majestic mode.
The further away the transmitter gets from the receiver, you will notice the receiver light on the MoVI start to flicker slightly and cause the gimbal to jump. Have you been shooting in an area with obstructions? Wall, pillars, etc..? Chris
Aside from distance, interference such as, baby monitors, car alarms, other video devices, can interfere with the signal. Microwaves are a big one. UHF touch to talk radios also can contribute. Chris
If you want to perform a range test on the transmitter and you have your Spektrum DX7s user manual handy, it's on page 18. If you don't have it handy, see instructions below. Range Test Always do a radio system range test before each flying session, especially when flying a new model. All Spektrum aircraft transmitters incorporate a range testing system which, when activated, decreases output power for a range test. 1. With the system powered on and the model restrained, stand 30 paces (approximately 90 feet/28 meters) from the model. 2. Face the model with the transmitter in your normal flying position and put the transmitter into range test mode. 3. Operate the controls while holding the trainer/bind button. You should keep full control of the model at 30 paces (90 feet/28 meters). 4. If the model does not respond correctly to controls, make sure receiver antennas, receiver, servos and power supply are operating correctly. 5. Release the trainer/bind button to return transmitter output to full power. 6. Doing a range test while using a telemetry module will display the flight log data on the transmitter screen.
To enter the range test mode, click on the roller button just to the right of the LCD screen on your transmitter and scroll down to 'Range Test' Chris
