CS8RED.jpg We have been testing a Red Epic on our Cinestar 8 this week, coming together nicely.

Looks good. What lenses are you using it with? Looks like a compact prime?

Hello roger, I am running the same setup as you however I am in Canada... what motors are you using? as well as ESC's and what flight times are you getting per battery swap? I noticed you are using the wookong and so am I ... did you get the Osd and do you use it?

    thanks

    Dave

Hi Dave, We are testing various motors, but the picture show the Kopterworx KW10, ESC's are Maytech MT80.
Flight time with the RED is variable. At the moment we can achieve a reliable 7 minutes with around 85% pack
usage. The WKM works fine, however installing the OSD is a challenge because of the need to have some connections
running through the pan pivot tube. We are looking into miniature slips rings at the moment.

    Hi Roger.
Congratulations on passing your flight test the other day:) My DJI iOSD works a treat. If I can help in any way then let me know:)

    Hi Kat,

Thanks for congrats - nice to meet you in the sunshine! I have the IOSD working fine
on the S800 but the Cinestar is a different beast as the video source is on the gimbal but the
WKM IMU is on the aircraft in order to retain unlimited pan rotations there has to
be some form of rotatable connector joining the aircraft to the gimbal.
We are on the case !

    Best Regards
    Roger

    Hi Roger.
I have Cinestar 8 also and a 360 FF gimbal underneath and have a gopro on mine frameset so keeps it all separate from the gimbal. If you are worried about weight then obviously you can use a smaller FPV type camera but not many are compatible with the DJI iOSD. Failing all that, wait until the SYNAPSE comes out as that has built in telemetry:)

    Hi Kat,

Weight is not an issue, the difficulty is either routing the video signal from the HDMI converter installed on the gimbal to the iOSD unit on the aircraft or the WKM IMU data down to the gimbal. As for waiting for the Synapse, I am a little concerned about buying anything from a supplier that takes over a week to reply to an email, and only replies to one of my three questions.

Roger suggest that you not use the the gimbal camera on a 3-axis for FPV. Reason is the the gimbal could be pointed in one direction and the aircraft flying in another. Bad disorientation issue.

    Hi Gary,

Rest assured I am not flying a Red Epic on FPV. I am wondering why you thought I was??
The iOSD is for ground station image overlay only, not FPV. We only fly VLOS.

    Regards,

    Roger

Gary probably thought that for the same reason I initially did which was that most people use the SMART OSD and install it on top of the navigation board. Most people use a FPV camera on boom 1 and run the feed directly to the OSD board and then to the FPV downlink on the copter.

    Hi Dave,

Ok - I see where you are coming from. We have the DJI iOSD on the S800 and find it excellent, so wanted to replicate it on the Cinestar, hence the need for a up/down wiring solution.

Roger same reason as Dave. And you see the challenge. Only way of ingenuity would be to somehow put a brush connector between the gimbal and the flight deck, like the power to lights on a Ferris wheel or rotating beacon. Or run two Tx for video but then to get an overlay you would need a mixer on the ground to get the overlay.

    Hi Gary,

We have sourced an 8 way lightweight slip ring - just need a couple of hours and a hot soldering iron !!
    Will keep you posted.

    Roger.
