Thanks Gary, I have tried that setting and did again. Also, I tried all different order of operations for plugging in the camera, Tx and converter. Just a black screen. The converter sure does get hot. 140F according to my temp gun.
Something is wrong. It should not get that hot. Have you verified the input voltage being supplied? Using the supplied cable can you plug the camera into anything else to make sure that it isn't the camera or cable?
Thanks for replies Gary. I have verified voltage today with a multimeter. It's +5v. HDMI out on NEX confirmed working. I used a different cable, tho. I also tried the converter with a 5D (with provided HDMI cable and a separate (verified working to another monitor) HDMI cable) and an Epic. Same results. Black screen but seem to have signal between Rx/Tx. The Rx and Monitor both have female RCA connectors. I found that a little odd. So I bought couplers at radio shack. It's working with the GoPro but could that be a potential problem? Hmmm.. Next step?
Sean I'm stumped. Maybe Andy or someone will chime in. That it works with the GOoPro but not with your other cameras doesn't compute. Also with no camera connected you should get a color bar screen (Pluge screen). If you aren't getting that then it is likely a bad HDMI converter. Perhaps talk with your dealer about getting a replacement?
Ooops, sorry to confuse. The GoPro isn't going through the HDMI convertor. Just through the other parts of the system. I will try the dealer and any other suggestions. Thanks.
I'm stumped too....it sounds like the evidence points to an issue with the HDMI Converter or the cable that came with it -- but the only way you'll know is to try and replacement, I suspect. Andy.
If I power the HDMI converter with the 5V OUT of the Fatshark 5.8G transmitter, should I connect BOTH black ground wires coming out of the HDMI converter to the Fatshark Tx ground wire?
Exactly, Gary. Embarrassing. Hey Josh. That is how I originally had it setup (both grounded to the Tx ground), but as you can tell, I had my video wires mixed up. So in the interim I soldered it up to the Traco. It seems much cleaner to be able to use the 5v out on the Tx. Let us know how it works.
Works great Sean! All seems good powering off the fatshark Tx and grounding both black wires into the one on the fatshark Tx.
I got the Converter to work but there is another problem. I am using a brushless Gimbal and since these things are so sensitive, they have to be perfectly balanced, the stiff hdmi cable inhibits free motion. A cable needs to be made using silicone coated wire. Does anyone know of a source for this? Thanks
Hi, i just installed my converter, works great and so but why am i getting black & white image? I have installed the pin because i have a PAL camera but still black & white.
Yeah i saw that. And the HDMI converter is just showing black & white image. I have tried with both pal/ntsc and different monitors.
And the obligatory question, you have checked the camera on another direct monitor and it is putting out a color signal? What camera are you using and output settings if any that you can control?
Yes i have. The camera is a Sony NEX-5R. I have also tried with Nikon D300s. And the Pin for NTSC/PAL. If im getting this right i should have it plugged all the time for PAL. But when i rebot the converter it can be anything - pal or ntsc....
Well, I have the same problem as described by Sean. Checked the cables and followed the procedure exactly as the Quadrocopter video explained, but not even the colored bars appear in my monitor. Checked with another monitor, the same. The white cable coming from the hdmi converter is soldered to a RCA male. Not a clue what's happening... I soldered the white HDMI converter cable to the yellow cable on the RCA, and the black immediately next to the white one, to the covering filaments on the RCA. The 5V power comes from port 3 on one of the Radians.
Carl I would check with your dealer on getting a replacement. Julian have you checked that the RCA shielding is actually connected to the outside ring of the plug? Many cables have two wires surrounded by the shield but the shield is not part of the circuit.
I have the same problem as many other too here in this thread! Panasonic Gh2 HDMI Output works fine feeded to a monitor! Same Camera with FF HDMI Converter --> Color Bars, no Input Same Camera with another HDMI Converter --> working Now the strange Part kicks in. FF HDMI Converter works with Sony HDR 730. But I still get NTSC Signal doesnt matter if the Jumper set or not Is there any Solution for that? Is my board defective? thx
