Trying to get an idea of how the majority fly their copters.

Option 1: Do you remove your spring and fly altitude hold with 0 automatic?
Option 2: Do you leave your spring in and fly altitude hold with 127 middle position?
Option 3: Do you remove your spring and fly altitude hold with 127 middle position?
Option 4: Do you leave your spring in and fly altitude hold with 0 automatic?
Option 5: Don't fly with altitude hold at all

    Thanks in advance.

Dave I seldom use altitude hold. Fly manually. Use Altitude Hold and/or GPS hold if I need to 'park' the copter to do something like slipping on goggles. And even then I am ready to grab the sticks and turn the automation off.

That said I do fly with the spring and a 127 setting. That's the way that I started with the MK stack. Not sure about DJI but HF doesn't have that and when I was using the HF stack I took the spring out.

While all of the bells and whistles are neat the landscape is littered with crashed copters where the pilot relied nearly 100 percent on 'electronics' and had little to no manual flying skills. Just read another incident on one of the other forums, guy crashed inside a warehouse. Mentioned that they may have turned on GPS hold by accident.

    Option 1.
edit: I misunderstood the question. I don't fly with AH on. I use it periodically to "park" my copter whilst adjusting the gimbal tilt, but I do not fly around with it that way.

    Option 1.
After take-off, I test the AH and PH for just a few seconds -- certainly on the first flight of the day, after that, just whenever I remember to do it. I'll also test CH on the first flight of the day when I've flown the first shot -- but being very watchful that CH is really CH and not "head for the county line...."

I tend to use AH when I'm doing long "truck" shots -- long straight passes at, say, 30 feet AGL. The problem is that otherwise I'm a slave to the OSD altimeter and cannot watch the other things I want to watch.

That said, i sure as hell practice flying those shots manually and trying to compensate for the fact that the bird looks like it's flying lower as it flies away -- and the reverse when it is coming towards me.

    Andy.
